You add some mud tires, racks, etc., this thing goes from a grocery hauler to an off-roader (looking-wise) in a heartbeat. The look is growing on me. I prefer the old rear hatch.

Re: gas mileage. My second tank of gas got 21mpg. That's about 3-4mpg better than my V8. That said, I could easily get 22-23 with the 2012 LR4 on the highway. I seem to be getting better mileage on the short hops

How's the noise on those Terra Grapplers. I have the same Nittos on my LR4 and wind noise is awful.

I hate to say it, but the LR4 and iphone were a bad combo. Way too far to look down and check a message. I had one of those air vent holders for my phone for trips. CarPlay is a big step up

I am miffed I can't stand my bike up in the rear, though. I used to carry two mountain bikes back there, no problem (front wheel off). Not possible in this one.

Get a dropper post. We carried two MTBs (one a 29er) in the back with front wheels off for 11k miles towing our Airstream in the D5. In the LR4 I used to get 3 but can still get 2 in the D5. Thule makes a truck bed mount for the fork that I bought and bolted to some wood with a thru axle adapter so basically attached the front suspension to that and with the dropper post down can get the bikes in no problem. Just takes tipping it at an angle to get the set to clear the opening and then plenty of room once you hit sunroof.

It's true that bikes won't fit in the cargo area. When I get ready to transport our bikes I'll order a Swagman Chinook Hitch Bike Rack from Amazon.

See post above - you can get two bikes in!

I'll try to grab pics for y'all at some point this weekend.

Traded in my 2010 LR4 (V8) for a 2015 Range Rover (V6) a while ago and I still think the LR4 was a better truck to drive. The LR4 was a great truck. Total gas guzzler, but that V8 provided abundant power. My RR feels like something of a letdown. Much less power on acceleration and the interior of the LR4 was so nice that the RR just feels like more of the same rather than a big step up in luxury. The only thing clearly better about the RR is the gas mileage. The rest, seems to me, is just hype since the RR is the top of the line vehicle for the company and commands a higher premium price when new. To me, the difference between a Lux LR4 (and probably Disco 5) and the RR is like the difference between a Cadillac and a GMC Denalli - not much real difference at all.

The whole point was I could swaddle by Uber-expensive Santa Cruz 5010 in my fine British interior. Then, I'd unload it and unmercifully beat it up and get it muddy only to return it to the trunk for a pampered ride home.

I have a hitch-mount rack for transporting kids bikes (and mine). It's just easier to lock up the bike in the car versus on the hitch of the car. It's also a pain in the ass to put on the hitch mount rack for a 10 mile jaunt to the MTB trails. Taking off the front wheel and throwing it in the back is still easiest. It still fits, but now it lays on its side.

I said in the back. I’ll take a pic later today. Two bikes, inside, wheels off, standing up.

Edit: had this pic on my phone. Zoom in to rear window. You’ll see two rear tires standing up. But I’ll snap some more later today.

I'm glad you like it. For me, it's just a poor physical representation of a vehicle, much less an LR. I'm not even saying "compared to the LR4", it's just not a very good looking vehicle. The rear looks like it was smashed in and lifted in the air and the front is so pedestrian, you could mistake it for any also ran.

The functionality of the interior is near criminal. Seriously, what they did to the second row with the ingress/egress is nothing short of moronic. Just for fun, when I talk the LR4 in for it's maintenance visits I go up front and they try to pitch me one. I asked them to show me how to get into the back and it's supper funny to watch them push buttons and look befuddled, then bush more buttons and look even more confused. Then give some excuse like the battery must be dying (that's what I got last time).

I removed the middle seat from our 2nd row and it make all the difference. Second row captains. Nice. But these clowns couldn't figure out their market.

Hopefully these don't f up the LWB defender when it comes out. Lesson: never let stupid people design a vehicle for a market they don't understand.

I have a dropper post, but my bike is also an XL. It certainly does not fit with the front wheel off. I have yet to try it, but my assumption is it'll fit upright if I remove both wheels. Not a big deal for longer trips. The LR4 had clearance to spare with the front wheel off. Just had to lower the dropper and put it in back wheel first.
