Land Rover Defender 2: Conquering terrain at ridiculous speeds.

Why do I care if I can drift/slide/race a tank like this? I feel like the need for speed has exceeded the need for crawl and succeed.

This is how I feel about the G63 and the G55. I had one briefly and I did not understand the concept behind making an AMG version of an off-road vehicle. It made an uncomfortable vehicle that much more uninviting and at highway speed it did not feel very stable let alone on spirited jaunts through mountain twisties. The Range Rover Supercharged on the other hand seems to walk the line slight better with conservative power delivery and comfort. It is capable off-road if equipped properly otherwise it is a dedicated mall-crawl vehicle rather than rock-crawl. Which is how we wound up in so many LR3/LR4. It seems to bridge the gap between utility, comfort and luxury without having to prove anything and is not trying to be the fastest vehicle on the road. Which is why I have dubbed it "The Box That Rocks!".

I really want the defender to be awesome. I'm looking at it as my future vehicle to succeed the LR4 (as it will become the family toy at that point) but maybe I'll just get another LR4 if they fail on the Defender front.

I agree on the AMG G-Wagons. I can't see any reason for their existence or any reason for someone to buy one other than someone wanting the most expensive G-Wagon they can buy.

A G-Wagon with a souped-up engine, sitting on 22" wheels, is like a hippo on ice skates. it makes no sense whatsoever, but I think that's probably big reason why people buy them: to show they can afford to spend money (or make lease payments) on a vehicle that makes no sense whatsoever.

The new Defender is going to be the vehicle that, if we were honest with ourselves, Land Rover was always going to make. There's no way the current iteration of Land Rover was ever going to make a ******** off-road vehicle. My biggest question at this point is what Land Rover models will still be around in another 5 years. I can't see a reason for all of the Disco 5, Range Rover Velar, and Range Rover Sport to exist once the Defender is on the market. One of those 3 is gone, in my opinion, and it's probably going to be the D5.

Discovery Sport, Discovery and possibly the Defender on the LR front. Not too many vehicles with the LR badge. Range Rover is where the saturation and cannibalization lies. Evoque, Velar, Sport, Full-Fat and the RR Coupe. They have already cut the Evoque Cabriolet and I really see no purpose for that vehicle to exist in general so I would push that one out of production but the enthusiasts here do not represent the masses or impact the JLR revenues. The vehicles that sell will remain; they are like the fast food of the automotive world. They're not good but they're accessible and have a nice badge so joe six-pack can keep up with the Jones and impress others who don't care or don't know.

Ha. It's an older one, at that--2015 or older, at least.

Wonder if it's just a rig-car that some production company uses for desert shots?
