Land Rover Defender 2: Conquering terrain at ridiculous speeds.

Why do I care if I can drift/slide/race a tank like this? I feel like the need for speed has exceeded the need for crawl and succeed.

I agree. I'm cautiously optimistic about this product but it seems like Land Rover has abandoned their roots. The Defender should contrast the other Land Rover product lines and not be more of the same.

If I ran Land Rover and I was given the three lines I would differentiate them.

Defender- Utilitarian, Offroad, Rugged. I would put it head to head with the Jeep Wrangler and the Gladiator.

Discovery- Refined, Capable, Durable. I would market this against like a 4 Runner TRD Pro and Lexus GX460 and other similar vehicles.

Range Rover- High End, Fast, Luxurious. I would put it up against something like the LX570 and any other high end vehicle that has hints of off road worthiness...maybe the G class even though it technically competes more with the Wrangler other than it's price.

My guess is that is captured from some recent filming for upcoming LR media.

The diamond plating on the hood seems a bit forced based on the look of the rest of the vehicle. A nod to the past for sure, but it is not working for me in this photo. But, with so many variations and option packages coming, I am sure it not standard on every Defender. Black roof too, probably another "option" to pay extra for.

That angle of the shot brings back the DC100 feeling. That soft-edged DNA is still in there even though they toughened it up a bit.

The tread plate on top of that rounded body looks ridiculous.

Otherwise, it's not horrible.

Bumper integrated into front quarter panel. o_O

Is this an electric vehicle? It doesn't have much of a grille. It looks like the Rivan concept. :puke:

This is making the rounds on IG. Front end looks like a Chevy Tahoe. Some are claiming it’s from a Bond movie set. I’m hoping this is a huge hoax. If not, it makes the drawn-out reveal even more ridiculous...we waited that long...for THIS? Of course, if it is capable, that will make up for a lot of cosmetic sins but this thing looks really uninspired. I’m not going to get worked up into a lather at this point...

It really does look like that hoodless mockup that was making the rounds a month or two ago.

It's just... boring. I'm sure it will look better in person, but the Defender I was so photogenic in ways that this one isn't.

This is probably the worst color to look at it, though. I think a white or pastel green would look a lot better.
