Hey guys, looking for some feed back, I’m new to the site but not to rovers. Admittedly I have never worked on my lr4 till tonight besides some very basic stuff. But, I am handy and there isn’t much I can’t fix on a vehicle (normally). Soooo I replaced the leaky water pump! Great, pretty straight forward, no real issues excepptttt after I ran it for a bit it started basically pouring out coolant, can see where exactly thanks to the design but it was ALOT. So. I pulled it back off while one of the bolts sheared off while loosening (swell) anyway I get it off, can’t really tell anything is out of place. So I reinstalled (using the same gaskets cause I didn’t have another pair handy) and double triple checked everything. Ran it again and same thing. It had a leak before but it was pretty minor. Now it’s roughly equivalent to Niagara Falls. So, awesome, anyone have any input? I appreciate it very much! Thanks in advance guys!

No that was on my list today, I just though it would be weird to have that break while changing the water pump? Unless that’s what was leaking from the beginning?

I don't really know the answer, but it might help if you say what year your LR4 is as there was an engine change mid-model.

As far as I know, though, the water pump and crossover pipe issues could be the same no matter the engine.

It’s a 2010, from what I can find it’s likely the crossover pipe, just not sure why it would fail catastrophically during the install of the water pump

The water pump has a line that runs to the hose above the top thermostat hose (that connects to the crossover). Are you sure that return is seated correctly? Also, what about the small plastic pipe behind the water pump? Are you sure you re-fitted? I would have replaced that small pipe, top crossover, and the top thermostat to crossover pipe hose (new design) all at the same time as the water pump.

Ok so it’s definitely the crossover pipe, was split on the backside of the y. Problem again when I went to reattach the water pump again the bottom left bolt sheared off. Using my smallest ratchet I tightened it “snug” before using the torque wrench and it just sheared, not much pressure. Is it just me or are these incredibly cheap bolts? Considering getting some grade 8 to replace. Any thoughts?

Also can anyone explain the modification with the new hose to thermostat? There’s the new dummy line coming off the throttle body, and I assume the tube coming from the overflow tank gets attached to the other side of the dummy hose? My main question is why not just provide two end caps? One for the throttle body and 1 elbow for the overflow, it seems way more complex than it needs to be. Is this just me or am I missing something?

Any chance you saved your failed pipe? We are looking for a few specimens to dissect in order to manufacture a more durable pipe.
