Well, it certainly looks better than the current Discovery. It will sell. Consider the RR Sport when it came out years ago. It was unanimously panned on this site for looking like the Ford Explorer. Look how well it's performed market-wise.

It looks like if you want the factory 18" wheels (either steel or aluminum), you've got to opt for the smaller engine.

The smaller engine restricts you to the "S" level trim at the highest. You can still option out the S nicely, but there are some things it can never have, such as the full LED headlight signature.

I'm not sure if the larger engine (and thus the HSE and X trims) have larger brakes and can't fit 18" wheels, or if you could just verbally tell a dealer to give you the 18" wheels when you buy. Regardless, you could swap the headlights in the future if you wanted, I'm sure.

Will diesel be available in the US eventually?

I hope so. I know there are certain things that won't be available here (or maybe anywhere) until later. The D90 is one, which I think might not show up until Spring? But I hope a diesel is coming.

That said, I think LR may believe the new engines are more fuel efficient enough to eat into diesel sales, especially in light of the U.S.' renewed distrust in diesel post dieselgate.

Haha. This today meanwhile I just pinged somebody about a gem LR3 for $4k.

The 110 being $80k+ will simply depreciate to $40k in under 2 years would be my guess. I’ll wait for the secondary market if that’s list.

Really looking like it won’t be able to accommodate more rubber unfortunately...

This article on Expo goes into more nuts and bolts than a lot of the official Land Rover stuff has.

https://expeditionportal.com/the-new-defender-against-the-world/

I believe it is important to set aside the initial distraction of a new body shape and IFS/IRS and dig into the raw numbers. To start with is an impressive payload rating of 1,984 pounds, a roof load rating of 370 pounds, and a tow rating of 8,201 pounds. The numbers continue in a positive direction from there, including a fording depth of almost 3 feet, front suspension travel of 10.5 inches, and rear suspension travel of 12.4 inches. The smallest wheel from the factory is 18 inches, but I looked closely at the caliper clearance and believe a 17 might be possible with the correct casting. The wheel wells appear to take a full 33-inch tire, but it will be difficult beyond that, with tight clearance at the back of the front wheel arch. The approach angle is slightly less than the Wrangler at 38 degrees but beats it with a departure angle of 40 degrees.

Also, according to Scott Brady, no diesel in the US.
