I suppose when you consider the Land Cruiser is around $85k, it's a little more palatable.

That said, even when I do my most miserly "build" with what I would want at a minimum, with the 4 cyl engine and everything, I get around $70k.

I'm curious after the hysteria dies down what these will be actually selling for off dealer lots. And then I'm curious what the depreciation curve will be like. It seems like "off road" focused models have a shallow depreciation across brands (Jeep, Benz, and Toyota, at least), so I wonder if the Defender will do the same, or take the characteristic Land Rover dive.

Close to 100k for the P110. Finally, a functional three-row SUV for the Range Rover market soccer moms and dads. This will sell quite well.

Still waiting for the real reveal. Keep thinking JLR has pulled off an elaborate hoax and the real Defender will be soon appear. I guess not.

This will be a complete dud in the US market at this price point and with this styling. Here's the problem: there were two potential markets for this vehicle and they rode the line right down the middle virtually insuring nobody is going to "love" this vehicle. At this price point, people who "like" it won't buy it.

So, to you @$$ clowns at LR who decided you wanted to attract soccer moms and adventure seeker tot he tune of +75K, nice job you knuckle heads. You mucked it up for both.

Edsel anyone?

Supposedly part of the C pillar is nonstructural and can be removed.

Good video going over inside and out. I am not getting over that idiotic c pillar. Video has the guy sitting in the back of the 90, literally can’t see outside.

OMG it's $1000 to strap a carry-on bag to the outside of your vehicle.

I don't know why soccer moms wouldn't prefer this over the similarly priced and far uglier disco 5 disaster. I guess it depends on how it drives. Everybody including myself is upset by the price, but you CAN get it for $50,000. It's just that we all want all the cool stuff, so if you outfit it like a LR4, it'll cost as much. The 1993 defender 110 was $40,000 here and it had FAR FAR less stuff on it than this bare bones defender. And I think between the base defender and a rubicon, I'd probably take the defender. I kind of think it will sell well in the U.S., and probably China. And all the third world countries will just keep their Pradas. I'm actually not sure why LR would keep the discovery in the line, there's virtually no need for it.

I imagine it is. What I can't imagine is why they can't build a car with as much structural integrity as everyone else? Somehow the LR4 managed to span the whole back window without a 16" wide brace, lol. I also can't imagine why they thought painting it so that it stands out to let everyone know they have incompetent engineers :)

I misread your post as saying 'structural'. which I think it is.

"One curious design detail is what LR insiders refer to as "the square," which can be seen in these official images as an extra-thick C-pillar. The additional material isn't structural, and it will be possible to order the Defender without it, increasing the vision of rear-seat passengers."

***? I'd definitely like to find out more about this. And talk to the people that are willing to pay extra for a blind spot that you could hide an RV in.
