I'm guessing those are imperial gallons....

(Still much better than the LR4 of course)

Yeah, figuring that an imperial gallon equals about 1.2 U.S. gallons, 29.4 m/imperial gallon is about 24.5 m/U.S. gallon. Not bad for a 400hp SUV.

There's no mpg figure on the P300. I still wonder if you can fit 18" wheels on the P400.

Similar with Audi and their Avant vehicles. I guess it's that old notion of wanting what we can't have.

Supposedly the A6 allroad and RS6 avant will return to the US. You can buy an A6 allroad in Canada already. I'd get another A6 allroad if I could. Not sure where you drive the RS6 in the US other than a racetrack.

I see you are collecting 2013s, please leave a few for the rest of us lol.

LOL...we bought the red one new and now it only has 30K miles on it. When we went to replace the LR3 the 2015 LR4 just wasn't as good as our 2013. So I found the gray 2013 LR4 1000 miles away with 10K miles on it. It's now up to 107K miles so in a couple of years a Defender may replace it.

I already have a deposit on RS6 Avant. I have been writing to AOA since 2007 about an RS4/RS6 Avant offering in the North American Region ever since they discontinued the /S variants here. As far as where one would drive it... I will drive it on the same roads as my E63 Wagon just with a bigger smile.

Given the weight and cost it’s tough to believe that a 4 cylinder would be enjoyable. I’ve been on the configurator and find it hard to put a respectable one together for less than just under 70k.

Which leads me to the fundamental question: would the soccer moms this thing was likely targeted at prefer this or a low mileage CPO full size RR which can be easily found for the same price???

It's a 4 cyl that makes 300 hp, and goes 0-60 in .2 seconds slower than a V8 LR4.

I think it would be fine.

I would like to see the torque and hp curves, though. Turbo engines generally don't make a lot of power down low (where you want an off-road vehicle to make it), but that tech has been changing a lot lately.

It's also interesting to note that Land Rover states the "X" model with the P400 goes 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, as opposed to 5.8 seconds for other models. Is the interior on the X model that much heavier? What else does it have that would make it slower?

Land Rover is purportedly cancelling plans for a pickup version of the new Defender:

https://www.motor1.com/news/370273/land-rover-defender-pickup-canceled/

In true, modern Land Rover bullshiteese, they give an explanation:

An unnamed, high-level insider from Jaguar Land Rover said the automaker canceled the variant from the future product plan, while speaking with Motoring from Australia. "Why would you buy a dual-cab ute when you see what you can put in the back of one of these – this is already a ute with a roof," the source said as an explanation for the decision.

With that logic, why the hell did they ever make a pickup version of the Defender? Why are people lining up for the Gladiator?

My guess the real reason is that they didn't want to spend the engineering hours it would take to figure out how to make the Defender's chassis do the things a pickup would do, especially in light of how many of them they would sell.

But it's also a concession to the Australian market that Land Rover doesn't really care about anything other than the posh demographic, as almost all the "outback" kinda people are buying utes and not SUVs.

not if their lease people. can't lease a cpo. if one is a "fake it 'till you make it" type then that does not apply.

Lease versus loan either way:
At 70k folks have choices that’s all I’m saying...
And the fundamental question is does this vehicle offer a unique proposition for its price point?

I’d really like to see the torque figures as well! Especially relative to its weight...
Call me old fashioned but as the saying goes “there’s no replacement for displacement”. And I’m sure you’re like me and would prefer the 6 rather than the 4 cylinder..
Either way it’s down to a test drive to see for ourselves rite?

Now if we’re talking new school then an all electric offering would be a game changer. And to that point the Rivian hopes to be in the same ballpark as far as price. Will be really great to see if they manage to make it happen and actually bring their suv and truck to market!
