Hi all, today I took my disco 3 to go to a meeting and when I had a left turn around (15 minutes since start), starting from a stop corner, the vehicle lost all traction. Engine was running ok, and when I pushed the speed pedal the engine accelerate, but the car doesn't move more, just was going with the inertial speed. after some seconds, the car start working as it, and never had this issue again.

I wonder if you can help me with some information or tips to understand what happened.

LR3 info:
270.000 kms.
Engine V6 4.0 lts.
last oil change: 3.500 kms (5 months).
gearbox oil change: last year (2018)

This weekend the LR3 fails, the engine stopped and never start again. I called the mechanic, and after a long check, we found the issue. The fuel gauges failed and stay fixed over the middle.

Why I didn't catch the fail before? Because I use the disco just 1 or 2 days a week and for short trips, so I didn't think about the fuel was too low to take care and refuel.

Mind note, always park the disco at house with fuel tank full.

And fix this fault soon!

"Normally" with a fuel injected engine if your in a quiet location, turning the ignition key from off to run position but not start you should be able to hear the fuel pump cycle for app 3-4 seconds then it shuts off after it had pressurized the fuel system to the engine's normal operating pressure. It will be a very faint sound when running as it's mounted in the fuel tank. Overall it's not to good running that low on gas as the gas also cools the electric pump motor. Unless i'm all wrong dealing with older fuel injected vehicles this is one quick way of eliminating possibly a faulty fuel pump before checking fuel pressure at the engine's injector rail with a proper fuel pressure gauge. Best of luck......~~=o&o>.......

that's right. Other way to check if the LR3 have fuel (learned lesson) is when you turn it on. When You don't have fuel, the starter motor doesn't stop, and looks likes its trying to start the engine eternaly.

When that happens you'll likely let the smoke out.
New fangled LR's becoming overly complicated having too much electronics increasing the odds of total electronic failures or complete involving complete and total shutdowns out in the bush far far away from civilization.
Granted the 95 D1 with 5 speed having basic electronics isn't like the basic 1950's LR but is way less likely to strand me compared to modern day LR's. I'll take what was called an "antique push rod" engine any day.

Check and cross reference what parts can be used in your LR if possible saving you a lot of money. The 95 D1 fuel pump is the exact unit except the connections which is no biggie to connect then installing a General Motors fuel pump, very common item plus 1/3 the cost.
Take care down there......~~=o&o>.......
