I was wondering if anyone who has 31 inch tires, or bigger on their LR4 was able to find tires that would fit on the OEM 19’ wheels, and was able to fit them without the 2.5 inch lift rods at standard hight.

You aren't going to find suitable 31" tires for 19" wheels. Anything bigger than stock size that's available (Goodyear) has a worse load rating and weaker sidewalls.

Regardless, lift rods aren't necessary for ANY tire size unless you're also putting strut spacers in. The limiting factor on tire size for an LR4 is the turning radius (hitting the frame) and otherwise hitting parts of the fender wells. Lift rods don't help this.

There are some choices in 255 60 19, which is 31in. However, the choices with xl sidewalls(which is what you need) boil down to maybe 2-3 tires, all of which have a non-off-road tread pattern. But, that size fits fine without any rods. Common wisdom dictates 265 65 18 is the largest you can fit without mods, which is 31.6 inches or so.

I have the 255/55/19 GY duratecs and have been quite happy with them except that they seem to wear quickly. I continue to be on the fence about going to 18in wheels (and 265/65/18 bfg AT)...2k or so for 5 new wheels, having to deal with a partially deflated spare + 200 or so for an air compressor...all for an extra 1.4 inches of sidewall....hard to justify...but I am trying! :). The new base defender comes with two choices of 18 wheels, maybe the price point for 18's will drop...although I wonder if they will fit. The 18 wheels are not available with the bigger engine, while it could be just a particularity of the configurator, it could also imply that the larger engine comes with larger brake calipers and we have the whole lr3/lr4 wheel issue again.

I just put Goodyear Wrangler 255/60R19s on (31.1"). Fit without lifts on my 2016 and has a great profile.

Those Wranglers don't even have the same weight rating as the stock tires. I wouldn't recommend them.

Same weight rating as the stock 19 or the stock 20???

No. The stock 19's are XL rated. The 255/60/19 aren't. Aside from the obvious distinction that weight rating equates to how much weight the vehicle can carry, it's also part and parcel with sidewall strength. XL tires aren't great for off road, but the sidewall is at least better than the weight range below it. Everyone who's ran those 255/60 Goodyears off road has stated the sidewalls are like butter and get sliced open too easily. The biggest reason people like going to 18" wheels is because there are larger off-road tires available, and those tires are E-rated.
