The order guide is now out, not sure if that means books are actually open though...

The last line of the intro is proof LR knows what people are saying:

Looked at another way, is this a tacit acknowledgment that these dealers don't believe the new Defender model has legs? They're trying to gouge while they can before sales go over a cliff? I personally don't think that, but dealers like this would have a difficult time convincing me that they don't.

Considering the fact that in this area low mileage LR4 Landmark and 2016 Lux are selling for more or the same as some Discovery vehicles means that their new products aren't as enticing as past offerings however that being said in 2016 LR couldn't sell the LR4 without substantial discounts now they're highly coveted. 2013 Lux and 2016 Landmark/Lux w/ HD seem to be the most sought after currently.

I’m not going to make friends with this but after a year with a new Cayman followed by 11 months with a M3 (baby daughter forced that move) I was really excited to come back to a Land Rover product. I waited like every one else to see the reveal even though the leaked pictures looked like the real deal and I really like the new Defender but I’m not ready to pay tens of thousand over sticker.
Having done my homework I went to the Jeep dealership in San Jose and asked to drive a 19 Rubicon with the mild hybrid 2.0 and thought it was fun to drive. They wanted $5k over sticker. Stopped by Mercedes... asking for $70k over sticker!!! G Class
Spent some time online searching for the right color (yellow) and options (all) and found a dealer 3 hours away from SJ. Got 10% under sticker and I’ve been driving it for 10 days with a big grin on my face the whole time.
In a couple years when things calm down we’ll go look at the Defender and if it’s not all what it’s supposed to be then we’ll get a Rivian (put a deposit on it almost a year ago).
So far, I’m loving the Jeep and hopefully next weekend it will finally see some dirt.

A good friend of mine just traded in an X5 for a bright blue Jeep Wrangler Sahara and he can't stop talking about how much he loves it. He was able to get a manual transmission as well. LR4 is my first automatic transmission daily driver. Nice in gridlock traffic but I want another manual vehicle before they are extinct.

I'm not ready to buy now, but probably will be in another year or so. If the Defender is still commanding a premium then, I'll probably just look at a nice, low mileage used L405, especially if someone makes some sliders for them by then.

I guess if you can't sell the Discovery 5's then you can hand them out as toys so that dealerships can play with them.
