Is it possible to upgrade the factory backup camera to something with better resolution and low light performance ?

If you want better low light then I'd recommend some good LED reverse lights. I upgraded mine and am very pleased. Not sure if you want to mess with the camera, but I'd love to upgrade mine in the future.

What year is your rover? I heard they decreased the quality for the 2014-16 models...

I have an LR3 and I replaced the backup lights with LED bulbs. They were nothing special, but they certainly put out more light and hence at night when backing up, the camera displays well.

Also one can see more thru the mirrors, (the old way).

It was what I call a cheap and easy upgrade.

All the other bulbs I left per factory, as with the 3, LEDs in the rear can really upset the computers.

I've also wondered this; if you could take a camera out of a later model and feed the videos signal into the processing unit and it'd still work.
