Resurrecting a 70 SIIA that has been off the road for many years. Things are going well, but it is stuck in 4wd. All of the exterior drivetrain controls are functioning properly - yellow knob is up and I have verified that it moves the rod that goes into the output housing. I have tried reversing in high range and low range, but it stays in 4wd. My assumption is that the spring mechanism that is meant to disengage the FWD dog is stuck or the dog is stuck on the output shaft due to its long hibernation. The front output shaft seal leaks badly, so I would like to remove the front output shaft housing. My question is, can the front output housing be removed with the transfer case in the vehicle?
