I just realized you are posting from Houston.

I'm not trying to promote my channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/igreatestever9821), but mine is completely stock and goes damn near anywhere. Skids and rock sliders definitely would let you clinch your cheeks less when you hear scraping though

I agree. When you get into this stuff, you are really getting into the 1% area.

I would argue sliders are of more value than skids, though.

The challenge of these trucks is height. A good slider like a TR will allow you to get a tire onto an obstacle and then safely drag the truck across it to the rear tire.
They also give a jacking point along the entire vehicle if needed.

It sounds scary as hell when you're doing it, but it works.

I’ve done a decent amount of rock crawling in my LR4, along with other trails, and I’ve successfully navigated those trails with both stock and beefy tires, with and without a winch, with/without steel bumpers, etc, I actually ran elephant hill in Moab years ago in my, at the time, bone-stock LR4, I was a noob... but the rock sliders, for me, have been invaluable...they’ve saved my frame on several occasions.

I’ve also popped two tires on the trails, both in the last year surprisingly, and I was able use my hi-lift to jack up my rig using the nerf bars of my TR sliders.

Also, ensure you have a full size spare. And then just try your rig on some basic/easy trails and develop those driving skills, that will save your rig more often than all the gear. I’d recommend that when you start to build, think about recoverability and rig protection first.

Did you get the fuel tank where the spare tire goes? How's that working out? I'd love to do this one day...

Yes. I got the LRA tank from Australia.

Working great.

I occasionally have an OBDII readiness flag that won't reset due to "small evaporative system leak", but my be truck would be occasionally throw that before the tank addition as well. Not sure if the tank might exacerbate that or not. I have been trying to track that down by replacing the dtml pump, but no luck so far.

The truck still passes smog in Houston, so not a big issue to me.

It does not throw a check engine light.

Nope, coils are not the answer. Make sure you’ve got a full size spare and get out there!

Is the xlifter just another air suspension system just like the LandRover discovery has to start with? What is the use of fitting it to a vehicle that has the same system fitted when it was built.
Xlifter shows that it can auto level and have far more settings than the generic OEM system. It even allows individual adjustments. I'm not aware of any capabilities as such with OEM.
