2012 HSE Lux w/ 89Kish. Might roll over 90K this weekend.

Just spiffed her up with 4 new rotors/pads, a complete set of orange poly bushings in all control arms, new ball joints, new rear wheel bearings, rear knuckle bushings, new rear toe rods, stainless steel brake lines, and new dtml pump. I did the tie rod ends, front wheel bearings, sway bar bushes, transmission fluid and bridge/seals and spark plugs about 3K miles ago. The front diff was also completely refreshed when my locker was installed so other than the actual air struts and the rear diff, the suspension and running gear is pretty much new at this point.

I switched to a 5K oil change interval with the hope of becoming one of the guys running the original timing chain guides to 200K.

Other than being on my 2nd or 3rd waterpump, I really haven't had much reason to complain about her.

Next on my radar screen for pre-emptive maintenance will be injectors, PCV valves, and possibly walnut blasting the intakes. I'm also keeping a pretty close eye on the CV joints, but haven't had any reason to mess with them yet.

I have no plans to ever sell this thing.

I'll be sleeping in the rig tonight after catching GnR at Austin City Limits.

Were the front wheel bearings out of necessity or preventative maintenance?

I'm sitting on 2 new entire hub assemblies, but haven't put them on yet because my originals are fine at around 88k miles. I'd rather replace them preemptively than have them go out in the middle of a Colorado trip, though, but I just don't know when they typically go.

Preventative. I wasn't getting a lick of trouble from them. Just decided to do them when I had it apart for the front brakes. I had run spacers with my LR3 wheels for the previous 45Kish miles so I was very curious if there was any impact on them.

Got them off and examined them closely and couldn't find any issues at all.

I pounded out a few of the wheel studs so I would have some spares for my kit, installed the new ones and ticked the box on my maintenance list.

Not a bad idea. I had a front bearing on my LR3 fail with almost no warning (1 mile of heavy grinding before completely dying).

Geez, seeing these numbers I feel like keeping my 15 LR4 LUX with HD forever and buying a 3rd car instead of a Defender may be the way to go. I still love the look of this thing...

See next post for comment on above quote. Not sure why that happened.

I was thinking the same thing after my Defender build cost came to $76K. Maybe keep the LR4 longer and get a Golf R just for fun. Would be nice to get one more manual transmission before they are extinct.

The car avg about 16k per year for 7 years until my dad bought the new Discovery 5 and the car was passed down to me.
Jimmy, your dad gave you a great gift! You'll remember this vehicle all your life. Take good care of it as it will take care of you.

Hey Guys!
1 year update rover still running strong currently with 268k on the clock. Did end up replacing the major suspension components before winter rolls around. Just did a exterior fresh up after. Let me know what you guys think!
