Hi all! I'm hoping you can help out - my wife has a 2016 Discovery Sport, and it's been generally fine. We bought it new, it's still under factory warranty, and we'd like to keep it. I'd like to get an extension on the factory warranty, but I've been told that Land Rover doesn't offer a Land Rover extended warranty - it's all third party. Is that true?

And if there is a Land Rover warranty, where's the best place to get one? Our local shop tends to be very expensive for everything (just the way the dealership operates).

I have the same year/model, and just bought and extended warranty from Concord Auto Protect. They get good reviews, are responsive to questions, and have many options for number of years. They also have a discount if you are over (I think) 55. Plus, specials pop up frequently. I did ask my LR service rep if anb extended warranty was worthwhile, and he said "Candidly, yes. You know what repairs cost".

I don't know what LR offers exactly, but it is on their website, so there must be a LR approved program:

https://www.landroverusa.com/ownership/extended-warranty.html

I know when I bought an FJ Cruiser back in 2010 the Toyota dealer told me the same thing, they don't have a Toyota plan. Then when I told them I already had it lined up to purchase elsewhere, they magically found out that they did indeed have access to sell the factory plan and matched the price I had lined up.

The third-party plans must make them more money and I know some of them may indirectly force you to use the dealer selling you the plan because of the way they validate covergage of certain repairs (i.e. the selling dealer is better able to get approval for repairs that are on the fringe of coverage).

I have to disagree on your third party coverage at least what I went through with one.
Back in January 2000 picked up a 95 D1 5 spd owned by a doctor (PITA to dealership nit picking everything) that planned on keeping the vehicle. Full service as if end of lease turn in and paying it off plus he had 7/100K mile coverage by WESTERN GENERAL having an office in SoCal. To his surprise his wife another professional purchased a Lexis, they only had valet parking for two vehicles and his Porsche, LR had to go. I had two years left of coverage under WESTERN GENERAL. Talking both sunroof tracks replaced, transfer case resealed, engine rear main seal replaced three times, fourth time "hold the phone by me" dealership removed the crankshaft for a regrind removing while the engine was still in the vehicle. It had oil pressure issues not the oil pressure release valve issues they had. WESTERN GENERAL finally agreed on replacing only the short block not the front timing case cover with oil pump assembly plus couldn't find a 3.9 short block. After doing research I located and saved WESTERN GENERAL money locating a factory new 4.6 short block. I told as well the mechanic WESTERN GENERAL the new engine would fail again by reinstalling the old defective timing cover with oil pump. Dealership pulls loaner vehicle only a week into a five week repair. Rental vehicle fees mounting on me. A simple letter from my attorney to WESTERN GENERAL and LR dealership restarted the engine swap including a new timing cover with oil pump assembly. During the end the two years of extended warranty coverage WESTERN GENERAL paid out to the dealership $13,400 in repairs under my ownership. BTW WESTERN GENERAL's extended warranty programs quit covering LR's, Porsche's, Ferrari's and Delorean's being they cost them too much money. I have two of these listed vehicles by nobody touches the Delorean of 314 original miles.
Check who ever you use and read their coverage policy to what is NOT included, DO NOT let them walk all over you. A letter with an attorney's letterhead seems to get their attention.
Companies covering LR's with extended warranties sounds suicidal......~~=o&o>......
