I want to get a waffle board, but its kinda big which makes me think the only way to take it around and still fit 5 people in the rover is to fit it on the roof. However, decent roof racks can be pricey from what i gather, so i wonder if there is another popular way to carry these around, without disrupting the first two rows of seats.

or do i just need to wait to get a roof rack first?

I've no idea what a waffle board is, but I've hauled 5 people + 5 sets of skis by putting down one seat in each of the two rows so 2 in front + 2 in middle + 1 in back.

its a board you put in front of the tires to gain traction in the event you're stuck during off roading or in a snow storm.

instead of a waffle board, keep a bag of cat litter in the truck, or use your floor mats hahaha

Roof, hood, exterior spare tire, or a rack that covers the rear sides of the vehicle are the options I have seen on various vehicles.

Mine serve as the decking on my roof rack.

You should check out Traction Jack as a waffle board. They fold in half and store in the rear cargo area nicely. Pics below. I’ve used mine for my LR4 and my Defender 110. I use them folded as I’ve seen them snap at the hinge in the middle. I’ve seen the work fully open too but that’s my recommendation.

Get both. Hard to bridge up a shear obstacle with chains. Also hard to to get past a CALDOT checkpoint without chains. :)
