Sorry for another coolant leak question. I tried doing a search but there are quite a few threads so I'm hoping this pic I took will result in a quick answer.

I just purchased a '16 LR4 from a dealership (38,000 miles). The nearest dealership to me is 3 hours away so I'm hoping to fix this issue myself.

After driving for 4 days the coolant light came on. I checked the level in the morning when it was cold and indeed the coolant was low (below the cold fill marks). I do not smell any coolant and do not see any visible signs of a leak besides a small wet spot on my skid plate (picture attached).

Does anyone know if this is a coolant leak and if so is there a specific part causing this judging by the pic?

Thank you for your help!

I'm pretty sure it's the oil cooler pipe that connects directly to the water pump, but it could also be the crossover pipe. Without checking I'm still betting on the oil cooler pipe.

If you just, and I mean "just" bought that from a dealer, check the paperwork. Most dealers have at least a 30-day warranty. If you don't see any mention of a warranty, call them anyway. The advertised "30-day warranty" actually limits the dealership's liability to 30 days, as a car bought from a dealer carries implied warranties that would extend further out if not limited by such language.

I took it to a local shop as my dealership is 3 hrs away. They said they think it is either the water pump and/or crossover pipe but they need to remove the supercharger in order to see everything....They are excepting a 3 hr job out of this.

Does this sound right? I am surprised they need to remove the supercharger but I am not familiar with these engines.

Thanks

If you're at 38,000 miles, I believe the original Land Rover maintenance warranty covers to 48,000 miles? If so, I'd plan a trip to the dealer and have them repair for free.

If it will make it to the dealership before having a meltdown failure. Possible flatbed tow required and that's to the closest dealership 3 hrs away, wow! That tow bill the dealership should also pay unless your insurance policy has a one tow a year free policy. It would be great to have the dealership pay for labor and cost of the failed item be it a crossover pipe replacement. At only 38K miles a failure I would question the other crossover as well the plastic thermostat plumbing item being replaced while they are in that deep (your added parts cost) and way ahead vs paying full labor again like this initial failure. Later think after the 30 day warranty expires what it would cost you then vs replacing those other two plastic plumbing pieces at the same time?.....~~=o&o>.....

Update: The dealership replaced the water pump (verified leak) and the thermostat tube. Pressure tested and vacuum filled the coolant. Tested and no leaks.

I just got it back and after driving 30 miles I see the exact same puddle as before on my skid plate.

I took the skid plate off and found this (picture attached).

No coolant light yet. Coolant is at the top cold fill mark (only checked twice so far).

Dealership thinks it is residual.

Any ideas why there is a small puddle of coolant on my skid plate again?

Thank you

They pressure tested so could be just residual. Why is your coolant orange? LR coolant is pink/red?
