I've searched around and can't seem to find a definitive answer on what I should be ordering. I may just be slow so sorry if its around.

Looking to do a fluid change on our 5.0 LR4. What is the correct antifreeze?

Also was going to change the thermostat unit as well. Is it worthwhile to go ahead and change the piping or is that not usually an issue with these vehicles?

Thanks!

If you don't plan on off roading your truck, oem is the way to go. If you do off road your truck, this would be the opportunity to flush out everything and to use something that's more readily available everywhere, like dex-cool. There's oat, there's other stuff, but it's either oem or dex-cool (orange).

I'd personally went with dex-cool cause it's everywhere and in a pinch someone might have some.

Anything phosphate/silicate-free should be OK, I think. I've used Zerex G05 in all my vehicles, with good results.

Is Dex-cool safe? My parents 97 blazer used dexcool and it turned into a thick mud plugging up everything in the motor to the radiator.

You know Land Rover was at one point owned by The Ford Motor Company (FoMoCo parts) and they integrated quite a bit of Ford into Land Rover. Anyhow, if you're low just use oem coolant. Otherwise, dex-cool is fine. It's best to completely flush out old coolant and just use dex-cool or oat. At that point I would use something found everywhere.

Most likely the '97 Blazer was running green coolant from factory. When swapping over to dex-cool (orange coolant) the green wasn't completely flushed out and became a slush over time.

I know several people have had engines overheat with dexcool in the system but I am not sure if they have mixed fluids or underlying issues. Coming from the diesel world I only ran factory coolant mainly for warranty reasons and cavitation.

Warranty, stick with oem. Most cooling issues after changing out the coolant are typically related to air in the system. I've been running dex-cool without any issues for 2 years.
