Hello. Does anybody know how difficult it is to replace front fuel pumps in 2010-2012 LR4? Thank you for your help.

There is only 1 fuel pump. It's inside the fuel tank, you need to drop it to replace the pump. Methinks you meant something else.

I called the dealer and the parts guy said there are two identical high pressure fuel pumps that feed left and right fuel rails. Mine is 2011, it may not be the case with 2013.
I have a feeling this may end up being a timing chain issue although OBD says it is "low fuel pressure in rail" and therefore the "restricted performance" displayed. So, aggravating!!
Thank you for your reply.

The timing chain wouldn't have anything to do with low FP in rail...

I know on the LR3's the injectors would get gummy and stick, not sure it matters on LR4s now as I believe it's direct injection.

Depends on your mechanical aptitude. The HPFP should be two mechanical pumps driven off the cams. You'll have to remove the upper intake to access. Not a biggie if you're comfortable with engines.

You don't have to take the upper intake to access the HPFP cam timing. Just remove the vacuum pump cover and install the tool to check if the HPFP is timed properly.

I did this job like a year and a half back. You can access the hpfp from the bottom passenger side. It’s not a horrible job if you have some mechanical ability. The hpfp are located on the passenger side of the engine under a foam cover, I believe they take torx sockets. You will also need to remove the alternator to access the front hpfp.

The hpfp are bosch parts, and didn’t require any other special tools besides the torx sockets. It’s a remove and replace job

kennyao3001 may be a stupid question, but did you need to drain the oil to do these pumps or was it good to just replace them both with no oil loss.

I don’t believe I had to drain the oil. I don’t remember any oil coming out, But I do remember fuel draining out of the fuel line that runs up the side of the engine.

Also I ordered the Bosch fuel pumps from advanced auto parts, they had the best deal on them. I wanna say it was less than $500 for both pumps. Since this engine has two high pressure fuel pumps I replaced them both.
