Hey guys!

My LR4 have started to open the upper tailgate randomly when the car isnt locked. Have anyone else had this issue? What solved your problem?

Best regards,
David

Are you saying it unlatches, or opens all the way up?

Honestly that’s very odd to me. I’ve never herd of this issue happening to LR4s. I’d guess that water got into the electronic latch and is causing it to trigger and open. If it was me just Incase this was the issue I’d pull the fuse to make sure if it is water that it doesn’t damage the electronics in the latch. I’d also check things like the back up camera and the license plate lights to make sure they’re not forged up from moister as well. My guess is you have a sealant crack or a possible crack in the rubber that covers the tailgate button.

Been raining for days/weeks here so its plausible. Ive already ordered the button and the actuator which operates the latch but thought i might aswell ask if anyone else had this problem.

What does the button on the key fob do anyway? On my 16 HSE it just unlatches the trunk but doesn’t open it.

Think ive solved the problem. the microswitch in the upper tailgate was somehow shorted. probably due to water as mentioned above. Tip for anyone that think they need to change their switch, dont try to loosen the handle to replace it. just pull out the switch with a screwdriver. remove plastic trim from the upper tailgate to reach the connector, remove the 2 thin black wires from the connector and pull the old switch out and install the new one. my handle on the tailgate wouldnt come lose due to age/rust/corrosion.

Did you figure out where the water is getting in? I had a leaking roof antenna that eventually killed the back-up camera.
