The metronome sound isn’t the timing chains but that sounds just like mine did prior to replacing the chains, tensioners and blades. It’s that constant rattle.

After replacement my engine no longer makes that constant rattle. Nearly silent.

Interesting that it’s the Fan - I had video and pointed it out to dealer in 2012 (2011 LR4) and they never did anything still has same fan as new - I always assumed it was a dry lifter in engine or something.. does anyone have PN to replace so I can remove my clock feature?

The 5.0L engine is noisy (typical for an early gen DI engine). It is the first thing I notice going from the 4.4 LR3 to the LR4.

Yeah, well the 6cyl in our 2015 isn't any different. More clanging noise on start up than my F350 Power ****** diesel. 39k miles on it with a timing chain replacement done in the 20k range. We added an extended service plan that lasts until May 2023 or 75,000 that covers all but maintenance just as insurance. We'll definitely sell it in 2022 with a year left on the transferable service plan.

I've been enjoying that sound for years with no problem!

Ha-Ha, yeah me too! Told my wife last month we have to sell the LR4 now before it blows up on us or needs a major suspension work but...the LR4 feels so damn good still, just went to Joshua Tree, Palm Springs for the weekend and came back over the Santa Rosa Mtn ridge on the way to Temecula and this vehicle is so smooth, so powerful and such a pleasure to drive and ride in I don't know if I can sell it.
Just installed new brakes, changed the oil and just turned over 181K - good luck out there fellas.

Don't sell it. My plan with the 2010 is drive it till it explodes and then part it out.I amy get another 10 years out of it. Who knows? At this point it owes me very little.

I've had the same noise on extremely cold mornings for the last 4 years. It comes on for about 10-30 secs and goes away never to return until another extremely cold morning startup.

I have a similar ticking engine noise on my 2012 V8 with 75k miles on it. Had the dealer look at it and said is the beginning of the timing chain problem and quoted me btw 9k and 11k.

Then I had an Indy Land Rover mechanic with 30+ years experience look at it and said everything is fine and that the LR4 just sounds like this. He pushed and pulled the timing chain supposedly from the oil cap filler and said that was no play in it.

He also suggested to run 10w40 high milage fully synthetic oil all the time to help for the possible timing chain issue in the future and to change it every 3k miles or 3 months whatever comes first. He said that with the thicker oil will make the engine sound less like a diesel and run more quiet.
He swears that the 0w20 winter or 5w20 summer that the dealership recommend are way to thin with no protection on a engine with this milage.

Here is a couple of videos of the engine running, any suggestions..?
I feel hopeless given the difference in opinions on this...

It sounds just like mine which has 90K on it.

Who the hell knows, it is honestly all just conjecture since we don't have enough validated data to make statistically valid conclusions.

I'm just driving mine and changing the oil. If it blows up, t blows up.

I would like to hear the hives thoughts on the 10w40. That has long been my gut feeling, but I have never run it in the Rover.

Yes, it's all about individual opinions I guess.

I have followed his advise and I'm running now Mobil 1 High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil 10-W-40. I have done about 500 miles on it and the engine seems a little less noisy, but might be also psychological...

I was a little worried about the 10w as where I live the temps in the winter are sometimes in the -0 Fahrenheit but did a few cold starts at 0 and everything seemed fine, the pour point is rated at -42.
But I was waiting for the engine to seize, lol.

Last oil change at dealership was $300, I did this one myself and was $65 for oil and filter! Nearly 5 oil changes for the price of one at the dealership. I will stick to the 3k or 3 months interval at this point since is so easy to do.
