Hey all,
i removed the factory radio from my 2011 lr4 to add a carplay dongle that would incorporate carplay into the factory headunit. Upon reconnecting my screen now it is not turning on. I eventually got fed up and uninstalled the dongle and the radio was back to how it was. I connected it back to the vehicle and it is dead. The fan from the headunit is spinning, but the screen is completely black. I've never had any issues with the screen till now. Obvs it had to do with me removing the screen, but i haven't broken anything. Is there some special reset i should do? If any one has experience with this please let me know.

Thanks

This is probably not much help, but I would check that in the process of fiddling with it you did not blow a fuse by shorting something. Check those. Then I would unplug the battery for a while, cross tour fingers and reconnect.

Sorry I don't have any help to offer, but I'm curious about this CarPlay dongle and how it passes the touchscreen info from headunit back to phone. Could you provide a link ?

This is the dongle guys. Its pretty expensive. I personally wouldn't drop this kind of cash, but if carplay is that important to you then i guess its worth it. I got it from a buddy of mine for free who had it installed on his 2010 LR4. You hold down the Navigation button on the menu and it takes you into the carplay interface.

Also its been a few days later and i tried everything trying to get this screen to turn on. I got fed up and just ordered one off of ebay. I disconnected the battery, checked the fuses, and let the vehicle sit untouched for a day hoping it'll somehow by the love of God sort itself out.

Here's a youtube link of how the dongle works in a LR3,

Looking at the companies website they say that the dongle needs a 12v supply and ground connection. Did you do that?
(NavTool NAVTOOL4.0-APPLE-CARPLAY+HAGRY is plug and play video interface and only requires extra wiring for +12V accessory power input and chassis ground connection, this connection will not void your vehicles factory warranty.)

Just trying to help :)

Go to 12:34 seconds and listen he says that if your navigation interface isnt upgraded the radio won’t turn on. I don’t know much about this at all but i hope that helps you in some shape or form.

Just for what it's worth. There's more to it then replace the unit. These are service history notes from mine. Note the CANBUS which is all infrared courtesy of Ford:

Service Description:
**Free Courtesy Hand wash**
Technician completed programming procedure for stereo. Verified programming file is stored before cycling key multiple times and test driving vehicle. Tech notes radio and infotainment system are functioning as designed following repair.
Technician replaced defective radio. Verified installation and proceeded with programming.
Technician scanned vehicle for faults to diagnose issue. Found vehicle has various CANBUS related faults stored in system, resulting in no communication with infotainment system. Tech notes all control modules are powering up and can be interrogated using scan tool. Appears potential module defect is present for CANBUS control, resulting in loss of communication with radio, amp and headunit. Tech proceeded to loop out all control modules on BUS with headunit. Tech notes after checking every control module, CANBUS continued not communicating properly and infotainment system never powered up. Tech proceeded to attempt and reprogram control module responsible for infotainment operation. Tech found as main radio was reprogrammed, screen and infotainment system turned back on and started to function. Tech cycled key and ignition to find after single key cycle, system again powered down and stopped functioning. Reprogrammed module to run into same condition. Appears radio software has been corrupted and cannot be correctly reprogrammed. Will need to replace radio to attempt and resolve. Customer approved replacing radio.

That sounds expensive. I went with an aftermarket Pioneer but my LR3 didn't have the factory Nav.

I just finished installing the NavPlus unit in an LR4. Overall, I'm happy with it and it's great being able to use CarPlay in the car - really modernizes it. I feel it's overpriced though - it should be more around the $500-600 mark.
