The code for bad catalytics popped up on my 2008 LR3 SE. About 180K miles on it. I've looked around and no 3rd party vendors, to my knowledge, make aftermarket cats suitable for California restrictions. Only option seems to be to buy new through the dealer (about $4K) or luck out and find used ones.

Has anyone in California encountered this issue? Thoughts or alternative options that anyone can think of?

Would appreciate the help.

Can you post the exact code(s)?

Sometimes the "bad cat" code is actually a different fix than you expect.

What might it mean then? I have the codes and have been waiting for Magnaflow to come out with their version as it is almost available. I was surprised as I only have 99k mi when I first got the code. once I cleared the codes the idiot light rarely comes on now but still will. I don't have to smog it until June so have holding off on replacing the cats. If there is another fix please do tell as that is going to be expensive!
