Ok now I’m thoroughly confused. It looks like my 2014 scv6 is specced 5w20 and the 2015-16 scv6 requires the 0w20 of the newer spec. Should I stick with the 5w20 or get the newer stuff? Found motul JLR specific that meets the STJLR.51.5122 spec in 0w20. I have a feeling this was primarily done for fuel economy purposes but I’m sure someone on here knows the real story.

This is done so JLR dealer doesn't have to carry multiple bulk oil lines.

Anyhow there is a Liquid Moly 5W-20 for sale on Rock Auto which looks like it will meet your needs as well. Just use a good synthetic and change at decent intervals.

Yes, 0W-20 was spec'd for fuel economy. I personally would have no issue using 5W-20 instead, actually I would prefer that over 0W-20. Disclaimer - I own a 2010 with the V8, however the V6 is the same design with the back 2 cylinder blocked off (seriously, it's a bizarre design). There is nothing special about the V6 where it somehow "needs" thinner oil.

I didn't see the change interval mentioned. Do not change at the USA-specified 15kmi interval if you want your engine to last. The rest of the world spec is changing at 7.5kmi under normal service, half that with severe service. With a top-notch Group IV/V synthetic *and* oil analysis including TBN you might be able to push that a little further with normal/light service. YMMV, etc.

My rule of thumb has ALWAYS been to half the manufacturer's recommendations for oil change intervals or do it once a year, whichever comes first. In the case of the LR4 that was 7.5k miles. I also do an oil change on new cars after a couple of thousand miles. But based on the history we re forming on this engine, I'll go to 5k miles now.

The oil intervals I've had since new are (approx):

4k (new car oil change at ~6 months - OEM oil)
3.5k (1st year oil change - OEM oil - free from LR)
7.5k (2nd year oil change - OEM oil)
8k (3rd year oil change - OEM oil)
5.5k (4th year oil change - OEM oil)
4k (5th year oil change - M1 EP)
6k (6th year oil change - M1 EP)

That is a solid plan. Keep in mind the LR4 has a large sump so that helps OCI. 8k kms is where i landed long ago.

I use Ravenol and get mine on amazon for my 2010 lr4. Works like a charm and I change it myself. It comes in a kit with a filter and 8 quarts for less than $120! In the link below is the oil for you 14 lr4’s! I don’t have the link for the kit on amazon.

It’s still a full oil change...Just wanted to point out per spec it’s 8 liters not 8 quarts (8.45 quarts). I wouldn’t be concerned in any way shape or form as it’s a very big sump, but I noticed it in the manual and I’m **** retentive with my truck.
