Well let’s hope I’ll get a good price like you did. I’m not too concerned about it knowing it won’t be over $600 at most, now it’s more about whether I should have it fixed next week along with my bushings, suspension calibration, air conditioning replacement, Transmission bridge seals, hood latch alarm sensor, as well as my 110k service, or if I should put it on the todo list For when I take it in at 110k for its service (at 108k currently). Do what do you think is the best option, do you think the leak could cause damage to the tank of pump or car in anyway, me knowing it’s probably very small since I can only smell not see but let me know.

Mine progressed and got worse over time. It started like what you describe with a noticeable odor, but by the time I got around to dealing with it, it was leaking liquid fuel onto the floor.

Do what you are comfortable with, but setting myself on fire is pretty low on my to-do list....;)

Good to know, didn’t know it would get to that point in probably what will be a short amount of time. I’ll probably deal with it next week since like you said setting my self on fire is pretty low on the todo list, but setting my car on fire is even lower!

Good luck! Let us know what it is once they drop the tank and have a look. Be interesting to know if these symptoms are consistently gasket related, vs. how many things are DMTL pump or filler hose leaks.

Just got the car in for all the things I listed above, hopefully they finally solve my ever lasting transmission problem with the knowledge on the bridge seals and sleeves I offered them. I’ll let you guys know what’s going on with the fuel tank as soon as they drop it and give me the call for their diagnostic. Let’s hope I get my car back good as new ;)

Got the car back, no gas smell. Turned out to be the flange gasket just like you guys said. Thanks for all the help!!! ;)
Great to hear, Jimmy! Glad they dropped it and found it. Way worse to drop it and find... nothing. :D

Good Morning,

great thread. I'm having a similar fuel smell. Just bought a used 2013 RRS last week and working out all the bugs. I thought I read that the fuel filter is accessible from the rear passenger seat? Is the fuel pump assembly, gaskets and above mentioned parts reachable this way as well or the tank has to be dropped?

I don't know about the fuel filter (someone will respond) but hit all the easy options first regarding the fuel smell. Use your nose to figure out where it is the worst. See if you see any wet areas underneath that look suspicious. Lots of tips as you saw in this thread. It can be tricky to find but then it should be gone for good. My 2013 LR4 had it at time of purchase, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's why the prior owner sold it. He couldn't find anyone willing to research it for him and probably just got tired of his garage smelling. :hmmmm:

Just noticed this smell near the back passenger side. In garage and out in a parking lot. Great. Have to take care of that pronto. I’ll be preordering the flange and o ring for my visit to my Indy.
