Hey all, thanks for the help in the other thread I started.
Short version: 2013 LR4 99k miles, odd engine noise when cold. LR dealer was worthless, said rod bearing, which it's not. Oil is clean. Runs great, no loss of power. Independent LR place took apart the front and said its not the timing chain (but I should probably do it in near future), wanted to tear into it further and do the chain for $8K USD AND didn't guarantee that would solve this noise. Hit the pause button.
I'm really at a loss for what this is. I've had 15 Jeeps so I thought I knew every possible engine noise. It almost seems to come from the intake manifold? Only other noise it remotely sounds like is a Jeep 4.0 with a hairline exhaust manifold crack. Is there any chance its a sticky valve letting exhaust back into the manifold?
Thanks all, have a listen, noise came out well in these. You can really hear it at the end of the first video and throughout the second (sorry for vertical, not worth fixing)
