They would have to be completely clueless as the heating elements are very noticeable. I have a short (like fuse box melting) that is blowing the passenger side fuse. Driver's works though .

I personally find windshield heating elements very distracting for night driving. If my windshield ever gets cracked, I will replace it with a non heated windshield.

In the photo you posted I don’t see any heating elements, the elements don’t go all the way to the edge of the windshield so it’s possible they are not visible but I would guess the windshield was not heated. I believe the OEM windshield would be marked with the Landrover logo, so it’s likely the OEM windshield has been replaced with an aftermarket Pilkington glass.

Just to confirm / wouldn’t the windshield heating element(s) connect on the outside of the vehicle considering the windshield was replaced. Is it likely or common that a typical glass repair shop could just overlook connecting it?

As stated earlier, the wires are inside the vehicle under the A pillar trim. The heating element wires are sandwiched between the layers of glass, and route to the inside of the windshield.

I suppose a shop could fail to connect the wires, but that would be a pretty major "oops", hard to imagine a competent shop making such a blunder.

Does your windshield have the heating elements? The wires are fine, but quite obvious if you look closely.

I don’t believe you windshield was heated. I have the same windshield as your except mine has a logo of the defrosters at the bottom.

Mine was replaced before I bought it with an aftermarket and I have almost replaced it with the correct one several times simply because the heated windshield is the bomb in heavy snow.

I agree with remember 5. The heated windshield can't be beat when dealing with ice, snow or even when there's a temperature inversion and the windshield gets fogged up. The Max Defrost setting is great!

Blowing fuses are common for these. There was a bulletin out that stated to replace the 30 amp fuses with 40 amp fuses. They still blow but no where near as often.

The Pilkington pictured above was the one leaking. They replaced it with a Fuyao and it is not heated. There are no wires in this one. I'm trying to figure out if the Pilkington that they replaced was heated. We only had it a few days, so I didn't pay close enough attention. I just want to be sure that they did in fact replace the Pilkington with the same type of windshield.
My dealer replaced my Pilkington heated with the Fuyao which was crap. They claim it is the same, but I found the rain sensor did not work through the Fuyao glass which has a slightly different tint. I posted this on the forum and many had the same experiences and my independent LR mechanic also confirmed this usually occurs.

So, try out the automatic rain sensing wipers a few times and if they don't work, demand that your dealer replace the window with OEM equipment. They put the Fuyao in because it's cheaper.

And as others have said, you should be able to pretty easily find out what equipment your vehicles was originally shipped with. While heated can be an option added, it is most likely part of the standard equipment of your trim package. So look in the user manual for your model year and trim and see what came with it. (you can find the user manuals online. sorry, don't have the link)

Good luck. Let us know how it works out for you.

We just bought a 2012 LR4. The windshield was leaking, so the dealer we bought it from replaced it. All seems good, but I’m pretty sure the previous windshield was heated and this replacement is not. I had a Pilkington Optikool previously. Was that heated? I feel like it was, but the dealer is telling me it was replaced with the same type of windshield.

If you look carefully at the front windscreen you can see tiny wires running down from top too bottom. Another sure way of telling you use too have a heated windscreen is look at the centre console. If your car had the heated windscreen there will be a switch for it. If I’m right in saying though all HSE and SE/ LS models had the heated windscreen installed. If you want too buy one

if you have a switch on your centre console your car will have had the heated windscreen. Another way of seeing if it use to have the heated windscreen is look at your engine compartment fuse box and relays and see if the fuses and relays are in place. Rimmer Bros supply heated windscreens for £679.00 and Rimmer Bros do have warehouses in America.
