I have owned this 2013 Range Rover Sport since Dec 2015 and love the car. There is 146K on the car and primarily it has been a lot of highway miles b/f between hometown of Abilene to DFW area. I was informed by the RR dealership in Ft Worth just w/in the past few weeks that I will soon be needing to have the timing chain replaced on it. I do have warranty coverage on the vehicle when I purchase it used in 2015. The situation I am in is that the dealership obviously will have to tear the engine down to get to the timing chain so that the warranty company inspector can see the timing chain. If for some reason the warranty company will not approve the cost then I will be out the roughly $6800 quoted for parts/labor. I also have had some work done here in Abilene and the owner of this garage does not feel comfortable in doing that extensive work on the RR. My concern of course is that the warranty company will find something else in order to get out of paying for the work or only cover a certain portion of the job. I love the car and do not want to have to buy something else. Any thoughts suggestions??

Welcome to the forum. Wish you the best on this, did you LR dealer tell you it would be covered under warranty? I can only see it covered if it was causing issues.

The warranty is covered by a 3rd party company and I purchased the lifetime warranty when I obtained the car in 2015 from a large used car dealership in the DFW area. The dealership obviously can't say what the warranty company will do.

I know from previous experience Warranty companies will only cover items that are actually bad. So unless the timing chain is bad and making noise I doubt they will cover this work.

Bad can be open for interpretation by the warranty company; but it is making noise. I did pull up the BBB report on Warranty Solutions out of Denver and of course there are a lot of horror stories.

So it depends on warranty company and the dealer make a claim on them after fixing like me I’m using Lubrico as recommended by dealer even I’ve read lots of bad reviews on them. By the way why your timing chain cost more expensive than me (here in Calgary is just $5000 plus a long time period guaranteed)

A follow up on this as well as a closure to the issue...it ended up that the warranty company did approve the failure of the timing chain after all; but this warranty company - Warranty Solutions - uses a labor rate factor from a company different than what the dealership used and as a result there was a $1400 difference in the labor rates that I was stuck with. So I guess better to spend $!400 than $6800. In addition the dealership damaged my radiator when they were pulling it out for the timing chain issue and I received a new radiator as well. So I guess it all worked out ok.
