The dreaded check engine light lit up on my 2010 LR4. After playing around with the hidden diagnostic menu and restarting the vehicle a few times, the check engine light disappeared and hasn’t come back on.

the vehicle performance wasn’t hindered in any way when the check engine light was on. Though couple of days ago, the engine was idling higher even after it warmed up and in Neutral. That issue also seems to go away after restarting the engine.

so naturally I’m now concerned this vehicle may leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere unless I can fix the rootcause.

The hidden diagnostic menu shows a bunch of DTC codes. Mostly seem to be related to the infotainment system, but there are couple of interesting ones related to vehicle speed signal and high battery voltage.

(see images below)

Anyone experienced these issues?

Is there a reasonably priced OBD II scanner or GAP tool you would recommend to DIY the issue(s) further?

How old is your battery? These trucks can be very sensitive to low batteries which can cause it to throw all sorts of codes. I would start there and hopefully that solves your issues.

Track down what the codes mean.

Something as simple as a leaky gas cap can illuminate the check engine light.

The 2 items that seem most commonly cited for a CEL here are the gas cap and/or a leaky/defective DTML pump.

Could be a myriad of other things, though. You have to research the codes.

Didn't know this hidden built-in code scanner existed! How do you access it ?

You can watch the video below for instructions:

I’ve mostly used it to keep the rear camera on while driving with my bikes on a rack.

thanks! I tried searching the codes on google but could not find anything. The codes seem to be different from commonly used OBD II codes. Which Is why I turned to this forum for help.

any suggestions on sites or diagnostic tools that might work?

In my experienced as service technician of the other lines of vehicles . Over charging or under charging alternator will cause multiple issues . It will throw the power train control module intro a frenzy thus causing erratic idle issues and it will give you multiple erroneous fault codes .

My Homescreen is different from the video. I have a 2016 LR4 HSE. Are there various Homescreens?

I ran a cheap OBD-II scanner which detected some error codes (see images). I was able to clear all of them using a free app I connected to the scanner through Bluetooth. After running the vehicle for a week - no issues show up when I ran the scan again. It seems most of the issues were one off / old codes that have been resolved. Some could have been related to the water pump failure and coolant leak few months ago.
