I have high frequency vibration that is very apparent in the steering wheel in park at idle. The frequency increases with higher rpm and is also audible. Any chance this could be the air pump?

I considered the power steering pump but it seems to be fine as turning steering wheel lock to lock produces no unusual noises.

The Rover has 140,000 miles and 2010 year model. We've owned since new and have replaced the water pump and the alternator.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you

The air compressor is located in the cargo area under the spare tire... not sure how that would translate into a vibration in the steering wheel? So, the vibration is ONLY noticeable while stopped and in park, as in it goes away once you take it out of park even before you start to move?

Sorry, I should have been more descriptive. It is not the air compressor for the suspension.

I was trying to correlate the vibration with something running off of a pulley as the frequency of the vibration is directly related to the rpm of the engine. I don't believe it to be the a/c compressor or the power steering pump. We had the water pump replaced not very long ago as well as the alternator. Have not had a chance to check with our mechanic yet so it may be easily diagnosed. Just thought I'd get an idea before heading to the shop.

Purchase a cheap stethoscope for auto repair at Harbor Freight Tools. Then you can pinpoint the exact component, maybe. Wish you well in the diagnosis, as finding these can be frustrating.
