Seriously?

I just had my dealer replace my windshield with an OEM one, insurance paid for it all. (AZ has no deductible on glass)

They did a very nice job, and I had them replace the pillar clips. Should have had them put on a new cowling, but I'll do that later on.
I agree; usually they have a Pilkington in stock or within a week but last year, not so - it puzzled me as well.

A few years back I had the shop install a new cowling and also both A pillar covers; with the new windscreen, the 3 looked new.

I have wondered about new windscreen wiper arms as the paint on the current ones is far from brand new. The arms cost money however.

Who's your insurer out of interest?

Had mine replaced by Safelite in 2018 and sensors for rain and heat worked fine after installation. They used blankets to cover the hood and sides when needed. I did at times experience the slight howling at 60. It lasted about 4 months or so but has now disappeared. It often depended on cross winds on open highways. Have not heard it now for over a year. Will check those clips out.

I did not have to do the tape fix on the last windscreen change out, but if I do get wind noise, I run a vertical strip of black 3M electrical tape up the inside edge of the A pillar taping it to the windscreen. Done right, it hardly shows at all.

Windshield replacement post-mortem. I made a fuss about getting an experienced tech and Safelight came through. He confirmed my difficulty with the rain sensor sticking tight against the glass in LR’s If I had it to do over I would try some heat on the glass to ease release. About the clips: he showed me the aftermarket clips they use and I said “no thanks.” Went to LR for them. The parts guy gave me a deal at $6 a piece. IMO the aftermarket clips could possibly cause vibration since the neck is too long where it fits into the exterior pillar cover. The OEM’s fit snugly.
