That’s very similar to the sound mine made before the idler pulley locked up and snapped the serpentine belt. When the bearing starts to go it makes a bunch of heat and then finally locks up and spins inside the plastic pulley until it locks up completely. I thought it was the supercharger coupler because it would stop when i was accelerating.

Ok Started the vehicle up and then shut it down. Realized the secondary belt was missing that drives the viscous cooling fan. Must have happened after my wife drove 5 min down the road to McDonalds. So buying a secondary belt and since I gotta take alot out feel like I should replace the idler pulleys. Viscous Cooling fan pulley is super wobbly looks like the secondary belt broke rapped around the fan pulley and kinda sheared it off. Dont think anything is too bad so just getting everything bought. Any recommendations or thoughts?

I have no idea why they didn’t use a metal tensioner pulley. My plastic one failed. Ripped the belt in half. Replaced with metal. No issues.

Is the metal pulley a Land Rover item from a different year? Do you happen to know the part number?

Update: I've been lucky having the extra time to be lazy and take my time with the Land Rover. I ended up having to cut the fan clutch spindle. The Cooling Fan Belt pulley had the bolts sheared off so there was no was no way I was going to get the fan off. Ended up buying a re-manufactured Fan Clutch Pulley Bracket cause it was just easier to unbolt it. Good thing too cause whoever removed the last one had machined the post the pulley went on to make a different idler pulley work. Got everything back on. Now struggling with the Cooling fan stretch belt. To get this on i don't know of any other way then to use the factory tool 303-1500 (ended up buying off bosch land rover tool site cause the dealer said they couldn't sell me the tool) haha. I tried a couple other tools and ruined belts and just had to trash them. I still had trouble with the tool cause you need to have someone hold the belt on the left side while someone rotates the crankshaft clockwise. Waiting on the next belt and I should be good. That's a total of 3 belts I trashed. I obviously wouldn't consider myself a mechanic but If I've got decent instructions can do things myself. So I should be able to get this thing fixed before they call me back to the office.

Here was my jacked up cooling fan pulley that was just spinning around freely and I was never able to get enough leverage so I cut off the fan.

Cloth strap wrench will not damage the pulley one bit, this should of been an easy fan removal.
If you had a cast iron idler pulley most LR's had a snap ring (older D1's) allowing a $6.45 quality brand sealed bearing replacement, not some POS bearing from China. Even the cast iron idler when the bearing gives out begins spitting out balls cocking the idler then your screwed. At least the steel idler will not melt or fall apart only requiring snap ring pliers, spare bearing, a couple wrenches plus one long handled wrench special to backwind the tensioner spring allowing reinstalling the belt. Always a good idea to carry a new spare belt also as they can get shredded when been popped off. Count your blessings the belt and fan didn't lock up bending blades then ripping a circle out of the $$$$$ radiator.

Repair time not counting the 93 minute road trip rescue with idler removal, replaced bearing, reinstall idler and belt to turn key running again, 22 minutes. Cost of rescued friend's LR one Bier a minute repair bill plus a lunch......~~=o&o>......
