Hello gang,
I hope you and all you love are healthy and well during this crazy time in history.
I'm new to the forum and this is my first Rover. After more than 3 months of seeing it for sale in someones driveway It was on my long wish list with no real intention of buying. As life dictates the transmission **** the bed on my Jetta and against my wifes objections I took the plunge. Price was a steal and only 104k on the odometer. Would consider it excellent condition and spent its entire life garage protected, well I'm in love (sorry hunny). So have been investing in the usual maintenance and since the control arm bushings need replaced I've been considering the complete front/rear Poly Bush kit from British Atlantic with all the bolt hardware as well. I was also looking at the Super Pro bushings that have the metal sleeves included but they are a bit pricey and cannot buy as a kit. I already have Moog ball joints and Hawk ceramic pads and now going to invest in the EBC Ultimax slotted rotors (Hawk Talon rotors are not available for the V6) Its basically esthetically flawless so worth putting the best parts I can find. Also needs the rear wheel bearing replaced so not sure if I should also get the spindle since Its my first Rover I'm not sure what to expect when I pull it apart and don't wanna find out the bearing spun the spindle after its on jack stands. I also picked up the left/right tie rod kits from BA. I guess I can go to Ebay for some of these things but the China copies are hit or miss so for the extra cpl bucks I want to be sure. Since I have some unscheduled time off, I figure lets getter done. Any feedback and experience with my to do list would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for any response.
Hans.

I've heard a variety of feedback about the polybushes....to be honest, mostly negative. I would stick with OEM and just expect to change them every 50,000 miles. If that is not a viable alternative for you, make sure you don't go with the red polybushes (too stiff) and consider replacing only the rear bush on the front LCA for starters, then maybe the rest as-needed.

Welcome to LR ownership!
I did all of the same maintenance items on my v6 LR3.

I replaced Front lower control arms with OEM bought online. Ended up needing uppers too. May as welll do both at the same time and get it aligned once. I’m not sure it’s worth all of the labor if you don’t press them in yourself (joints and bushings). The rear control arm bushings don’t seem to be as much of a problem as the front.

There’s an intermediate steering shaft that might be binding or making noise and isn’t hard to replace.

If you haven’t fixed the sunroof drains, I would check those right away.

One thing that’s very important on the v6....if the Timing chains start getting noisy, do not put off the chain guide replacement too long. You will destroy the motor when they go and the timing skips. I bought mine as a project with 136k with a bad motor. It’s not cheap, but cheaper than motor replacement. There was some warning apparently.

I had a shop replace the rear wheel bearings at about 108k on my HSE. I bought the bearings online and they installed. They need to be pressed on the spindle and I did’t have the tools. Worth doing the pads/rotors at the same time.
Make sure that it’s the wheel bearings and not the rear diff.

At some point, you might end up with an HSE with v8. That’s what I ended up doing and didn’t regret the move. First time I drove the v6 above 8,000 feet elevation, I realized it was just too anemic for me. It’s fine around town...but the 4.4 is a solid motor.

One great thing about the v6 SE is that they usually have the 18” wheels so, there are better tires out there.

For get the bushings. Start off with all general maintenance first. Pull off the maintains list from British Atlantic for 100 K. Do the Transmission fluid replacement first using the pan convention they now sell. This is the most expensive part of the Vehicle you are toast if this goes. 2nd replace be battery with North Star Battery. I would go ahead and replace the alternator while I did the battery. Everything else is secondary. Good luck..
