Yeah I was thinking "holy cow, where is THAT guy?" Mine is probably $90+ in SF and that's an independent. But they're great guys. If anybody needs an excellent shop in SF, go see Pete and Jack at 11th Street Auto. They're fantastic.

Edited. I think it’s 90+?

Not sure of their hourly rate, but they charged me $850 labor, so I think it's more around $140/hr if I remember. I did the crossovers last October on my 2011 at 73k which included "one coolant hose under intake." $1320 total with parts. Wish it was a lot less, but that's what you get in SF I suppose. I also pay $170 to groom my dog every other month (80lb Goldendoodle). Ha. Pete and Jack are good guys.

Yeah I could be way off then on their hourly rate. But those guys are awesome.

I was talking to a dealer land rover tech yesterday (About my leaking air suspension) but we got to talking about the crossover pipes and he said he sees this happen way more on the supercharged v6 on the 2014+ than he does on the 5.0L.

That is an interesting comment. Holding both the V6 and V8 parts in my hands, the V6 part seems much better made and heavier duty than the bonded together V8 part.

At the end of the day, unless someone comes out with a better mousetrap, I think the best course of action is to replace them about every 50K miles.

maybe the v8 is a smother firing engine. Our v6 is like a damn diesel.

The shop foreman at my dealer said they are well aware of the possible crossover pipe failures but have only seen one happen so far. He commented that it is probably more prone to failure in climates where it is warm year-round.

All v6 are inherently less smooth than an inline 6 cylinder would be, or a v8 due to the optimal V angle being 120 degrees, whereas most v6 are 60 degrees due to packaging reasons.

that said, i feel like the scv6 is pretty smooth and quiet aside from the typical sound of the direct injection pumps and injectors.

Its a pity these weren't made from alloy or fabricated from stainless with rubber hoses to allow for the flex, the same with the diesel intake manifolds and throttle bodies. most plastic cooling system parts seem to have a relatively short service life. I suppose it is to cut costs when manufacturing, and also help spare part sales. There is probably a large enough market for someone to start manufacturing upgraded units. not sure if they could be 3D printed in alloy.
