Nice install. I do the same thing with the integrated pin but hadn't thought to tape it off for protection.

That's a beefy hitch lock. My Thule uses a different security approach but I need something like this when towing a trailer.

How did the trimming of the cover go or have you done that yet?
Haven’t done it yet.

This is a picture of the rear cover back on after the cut. I needed to adjust around where the bolts pass into the hitch with a file for clearance but that was about it. There should be a template included with the kit.

I'm in the market for a hitch also and this looks like a great option and also looks good!
Does anyone know if there will be clearance issue with an oversized spare tire?
I have a 31" spare and from the looks of it the original LR hitch seems like it will be a tight fit and emailed Atlantic British about theirs and they don't know if if it will fit.
I keep the spare deflated a bit but still pretty tight over there...

This is from a friend's RRS 2010 with oversized tires. They fit but he mentioned it was tight getting it mounted back in place.

I was wondering what LR has done on the new Defender the the hitch?

I understand the why re what we have on the 3's and 4's, hence I wonder what it is for the new machines.

I thought I saw diagrams of the obscenely shaped tow hook/ball with an even more comically obscene illustration of how to use it. Will try to find it if possible. It was making the rounds about a month or so ago.

That tow "hook" profile is so common in the EU that they do not see what we see. I guess the problem is we in North America are still too puritanical and hence have developed a viable alternative.

If there is any good news, the North American two inch receiver is making some inroads on the Continent and in Australia.

The two inch receiver really is an innovation that still allows all the ugly or whatever to be inserted. I suppose if there is a problem, it is that the receiver size is nominal SAE rather than Metric, but that should not be a showstopper.

Not sure if this is responsive to your question but it's what I was talking about in my last comment. I thought it was funny but you know what they say: Simple things amuse simple minds...

Yes, that is what I was fearing.

Well at least the new Defender has independent rear suspension.
I am wondering where all the space went?

Yes, the Defender is smaller than our Discovery's but that much smaller? We have space for real dual exhausts and space for a full sized spare between the rear bumper and the rear axle.

Our vehicles look better and better.
