I was about to add my two-cents... and then read @mikegraef ’s comments below - and I would legitimately agree on all accounts.

Like exactly! If money were no concern, I would have gone down to some Lucky 8 18’s and have the tire world open up to you as it relates to choice.

Similar to him, I stayed with stock 19” (after paying for high gloss powder coating of the original 19’s) - and went with the Duratrac in the 255/55/r19. Not a MASSIVE off-roader... mostly campaign and BLM land trails - so I was comfortable with the adequate sidewall on the duratrac. Like the off-road look and feel and teeny bit of road noise... but didn’t want mileage to suffer, and liked the idea that that tire was made for THAT truck. Something comforting in that as well.

I know with a small lucky-8 or rhino-rod air suspension lift, that some on this forum are playing with the new diratrac 265/55/r19 - hmm - or is it the 255/65/r19? Anyway - it’s BARELY beefier and rubbing may or may not occur. But there are whole threads attributed to that.

If you go with the duratrac 255/55/r19 I don’t think you’ll be bummed at all.

But a plethora of options exist in the 18” persuasion!

Hi there - I am on my second set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. Size is 255/55/19 - the stock size tire for the 19” wheels from Land Rover.

I went with the duratracs because I wanted a beefy, off-road look (and performance), and there are very, very few rugged looking tires in this size. As one of the other posters said, most folks drop to the 18” wheel so they have access to a dozen+ rugged tires.

That said, I’m on my second set of duratracs, after going through the original continentals that came on the truck. I’m getting something like 40,000 -55,000 miles out of them. I don’t track it super closely, but my sense is they are lasting a little less than I would like, but not horribly so.

The biggest dings I hear for these tires is the lack of strong sidewall protection compared to other models. Seems like other tires are available with more layers or stronger layers in their sidewalls and or in the body of the tire. Obviously better for rocks and other off road hazards.

For me - doing camping and moderate off-road trails in blm land and lots of road driving these have been just great. Not too noisy, great off-road performance in sand/gravel and snow.

If money were no object I would drop down to 18” wheels (maybe steel wheels from Lucky 8 for the budget buy or the nicer Compomotives) and get something like the BF Goodrich AT KO2. I had two sets of those tires on my previous Hummer H2 and couldn’t have been happier with them. 55-60,000 miles, quiet ride, and great rugged look.

If you don’t want to mess with running the lift rods on your rover full time and making accommodations for tire clearance should your air suspension drop to access height unexpectedly then your choices are really pick from the 2 or 3 19” tires that have a rugged look, or drop to the 18” wheel and have access to a large assortment.

I’ve been very happy with the Goodyear duratracs on the 19”, but I sure would like some more sidewalk height, so as I suggested above, if you can get to the 18” wheels BEFORE you buy tour next set of tires and put another 50,000 miles on your truck I think you would be happier.

Please let us all know what you do!

I have used the Zeon’s and the Duratracs - both got me around 50,000 miles, and both good tires (on road and off) Would LOVE to use BF Goodrich, but on the 2011 LR4, the dealer told me I couldn’t use my 18” wheels as the rotors were too large. (I was going to replace the 19”s on the 2011 with the 18s on my 2008 prior to selling it) So the Zeon and Duratracs were the only choices.

The Michelin Premier LTX suits our Southwestern, mostly around town, some interstate, occasional travel trailering needs well. Very quiet and comfortable with wide grooves for flooded streets.

Ultimate street tire but they wear fast. For more durability and toughness and the expenses of slightly worse ride comfort the the Defender LTX M/S is a good choice.

I agree with the statement that the Michelin Premier LTX tires wear fast. I just replaced those after about 40k (and that was too long!) with the Continental TerrainContact AT's in 255/55/19. Only a few miles on them, so time will tell. They look great, feel great, and seem to be very quiet for now.

We are in a 2010 LR4. All tires are currently 19”

running Goodyear duratracs for off-roading as they were the only real option. And while we don’t rock crawl in our truck we don’t shy away from any trails here in Colorado.

winter time, we run a nokian studless tire. I’ve use Blizzaks on all my other cars but the nokian is hands down the best winter tire I have ever had.

also have a set of rims with street tires. Brand is inconsequential, we only run these if we aren’t off road and it is not winter.

I posted this in another similar thread. In case anybody is interested here is the write-up I did about my own choice of moving to the 18" LR3 wheel + Motorsport-tech spacers + Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx hybrid (AT/MT) tires. Still wrestling with a noise/vibration issue but the tires are incredible and I've done some gnarly trails with them.

i would like to hear peoples' opinions and reasoning for the tires they have, like/dislike, etc.

Currently running continental terrain contact 19's, but looking for something more heavy duty

Im really happy with my Duratrac 255/55R19 (stock size). I would usually run KO2 but with the 19" wheel we are limited. Low noise on the highway and great on trails and snow. Im in NorCal and they work great in the winter in the local mountains.

I think I'll try these for my next set of tires. People who shall remain nameless (@iSurfvilano :D) keep bullying me to get more aggressive shoes and I do like the look and well-known performance of these babies...
