That sounds more familiar - I'll set it so that the 31-31.6" ones fit underneath and will replace "Deflated?" with "Tight".

Did you have ro remove the heat baffle or not? I know some people did that maybe in tandem with deflation to sort of jam a spare wheel/tire combo in there.

To answer your question, I'm not sure that the wheel itself is the critical determinant. From all the posts / forums I've read it seems to be more of a function of the tire width (rubbing) and diameter (storage underneath.)

I did remove the heat baffle but not sure it was necessary. I just did as a precautionary step.

I just installed 265/65/18 Kenda Klevers that measure 31.77". They rub(bed) on the frame horns so I cut them out. Haven't tried to fit the spare yet.

Anyone running the Lucky8 18" steel wheels? Pictures would be great.

I'm in need of something instead of replacing the awful 19" tires I have, and the TuffAnts are all sold out for a while (They said late August/Early September for their shipment of wheels)

I'm just trying to avoid spacers and the expensive alternatives.

See the earlier referenced blog post I wrote. Unless I'm incorrect, I thought that the Lucky 8 steelies also used spacers.

They do use spacers. I’d prefer the Tuffant MK I wheels but they’re out of stock currently.
Got it. Was just making sure you knew that since you were asking about those wheels and then added that you hoped to avoid spacers. Let us know which way you go!

If you did end up going the spacer route, I can't recommend Bulletproof Off Road Adapters highly enough. I just got a set from them and they are a serious work of art. Made to order in the USA. Tough to beat.

I would have preferred a wheel where spacers weren't needed but the price on a set of (for me) off road wheels that will get scratched and beat up was way out of line. I picked up a set of trashed LR3 10-spokes for a song. Stripped them, sanded and rattle canned with Steel-IT and I couldn't be happier with the results. When they get scratched, it is a snap to touch them up.

Damn, those look good. Now I'm looking on Craigslist for trashed LR3 wheels...

So just FYI in case anyone else is planning to really off road their rig - after this weekend, I am really glad I went the rattle can Steel-IT route. I ran Middle Fork of the St. Vrain trail outside Boulder. It is a pretty solid moderate trail. Had to really pick lines and stack rocks in 2 spots (at least I did) and I scratched the living crap out of the wheels. Had I paid top dollar for them, I'd be crying today. A little pressure wash and a touch up with the can and I'm back in business. The design of the lr3 wheel lends itself to getting scratched on a rocky trail.

Wheels get mangled in real terrain. No real way around it. It's a badge of honor.
