Im sure this has been beaten to death, so I apologize in advance.

Is the oil spec really that important? especially if the OCI is being done at 3-5k miles?

Reason I ask is that im using Liquimoly oil that DOES NOT list the proper spec (WSS-M2C925-A).

Am i doing any harm? Mind you this is on a high mileage (140k) car.
does anyone one know what makes this oil spec unique?

if it matters, these are the specs the oil im using meets:
  • ACEA A3
  • ACEA B4
  • API SN
  • BMW Longlife-01 (bis MJ 2018)
  • Fiat 9.55535-H2
  • Fiat 9.55535-N2
  • Fiat 9.55535-Z2
  • MB 229.5
  • Opel GM-LL-B-025
  • Porsche A40
  • Renault RN 0700
  • Renault RN 0710
  • VW 502 00
  • VW 505 00

WSS-M2C925-A is an old spec that has been superseded by a different/newer spec(930, or something along those lines). I've never used an oil that met that spec and am not worried about it, as long as it's a quality oil and the right weight and oil changes happen every 5k.

MOst important specification for me in these trucks is the NOACK volatility scale for the oil because of the direct injection. 0w-20 tends to run higher than 5w-30. But high end oils can be acceptable at either viscosity. Also higher end oils have better additive packages like dispersants and detergents and tend towards better TBN over time. I wouldn’t be worried about Amsoil 0w-20 but even in my chosen brand the 5w-30 has a better noack score

Should be fine, assuming it's full synthetic, and you are changing by 5kmi.
BTW, how long have you been doing the FCP warranty exchange for oil? I've always wondered how they can do that and not lose money. Guess not many people take them up on it...

Ive done it on my Audi 2x, and 1x on the Rover. first time using the FCP return policy was 2 years ago.

Never had an issue. i live 1 state away from FCP's return address, so return shipping isn't bad. Both of my cars take a significant amount of oil, so it makes it very worth the "effort"...which is hardly anything since my job has daily UPS pickup. Its actually easier for me to return it than it is to drop used oil off for recycling.

Just keep in mind that you need to buy the second oil change kit before you can return the first. DO NOT try to scam the system by putting the used oil and filter from your "first" oil change into the FCP return.
Your investment will be 1 oil change, and cumulative return shipping costs over time.

Engine oil really is being over thought these days . Any decent synthetic in the region of 0-5w / 30-40 will do .
