I have been to the dealer (different ones) and have asked them to turn on the DRL's for me - they say they cannot do it, or are afraid to do it. Some say they need to download a file, then they get the file and it is too complicated...not sure what that is all about. I know these trucks were deleivered to Canada and other markets that require by law DRL's. Can never get a straight answer. Has anyone turned them on themselves with a GAP tool? Really don't want to spend 4-500 on a tool just to turn these on but want to make sure it is possible as I am not sure why the dealers are giving me such a hassle - anyone?

Thanks -

if it helps, my 2011 LR4 HSE lux has the LEDs on as DRL all the time.

this truck has HID headlights. not sure if DRL LEDs/halogen/HID options have any correlation.

maybe an owner before me enabled it, but it is possible if you have the correct options.

It is absolutely possible and was one of the first things I did when I (finally) got my GAP tool (2013 LR4 HSE). I also enabled the digital speedo in the dash display.

The only question I had was which of the DRL options to choose. I went with Canadian after trying "Standard" and not getting any results. Also when you test the results it helps to have two people or the right ambient lighting conditions. I tried putting the LR4 in gear and holding it with the parking brake while I ducked out to see if they were on. Nothing. Then I realized that DRLs go off if EPB is applied. Now I have confirmed that they work exactly as I had expected.

OK great - did you ever ask the dealer to do it? Not sure why the dealer is giving me such a hard time...also which gap tool do you have?

Never asked a dealer to do it. I don't trust them with oil changes let alone performing voodoo on my CCFs.

I have the GAP IIDTool Bluetooth edition. I'm pretty sure that Lucky8 ships it for just under $500 if you are affiliated with certain FB groups or possibly even this forum. I bought mine from a friend and paid the license transfer fee to latch it to my vehicle.

i sent an email to lucky8, asking nicely for a discount. not mentioning any affiliation, i think they offered $480 shipped.

I was very reluctant to spending soo much on a specialized too for 1 car, but its worth it.

besides whatever DRL coding you may want, its a great tool to have for other things. Its already paid for itself with me with 1 repair; to air down the suspension (replacing a shock). if i didn't have the tool, the labor at a shop for shock replacement would have easily been about the same as the IID tool cost.

its also a nice peace of mind that if i ever break down, I can scan to see whats wrong. maybe clearing codes could be enough to get me going again, rather than a tow home.

This just happened to me. I was about to load some household trash from the garage into the LR4 and I got the dreaded “nobody’s home” response when I pressed the lift gate button. No click or anything.

I broke out the IIDTool and sure enough there was a fault code for a short in that switch. I cleared it and the lift gate worked just fine. I still need to determine if there’s an underlying problem back there, but as you said, it got me back in business in the moment.

Even just programming a new eBay key can pay for most of the IID tool. Enabling the digital speedo, adjusting the stance, and enabling the Open/Close windows with the key fobs were the first things I did with mine!

That sounds great reached out to Lucky8 - is there some documentation or a thread with all of the things you can do? For the digital speedo is that the same when you activate cruise and get the readout or different? I could def get a new key-fob to replace my nasty torn one -
