Is there somewhere you recommend buying the shifter assembly or is it only available through the dealer?

Thank you for your quick response!

At the time Land Rover Merriam Parts was the cheapest I could find. It comes with the entire cable that goes through the very front of the center console and under the LR3 to the transmission linkage. At the time I could not discern if the old cable could safely be rmoved or not, but once I had the old shifter out you can actually pop the shifter cable off the assembly if you wish - although there is very little room to get any real leverage.

My issue was sport mode not working so I had the same corroded connector shown earlier. However, one of the pins was so corroded that it broke of into the female part of the plug. I removed the assembly and took the circuit board to a local computer/electronics repair shop and they were able to order the whole plug assembly and resoldered it to my board for $53. Plugged back in and all is well. The battery had drained over the week and I got a bunch of error codes but once boosted and recharged, we're back with sport mode.

By the way i have now a spare 2006 LR3 shifter assembly used but in decent condition i can sell for anybody who wants a cheap replacement. just message me here for details, i also have the wire bundle that goes with it and the center condole, but thats more for parts since the shifter assembly connector on the bundle i manually spliced in, but then coulnt make work, so i got yet another wire bundel that did work. Anyways 80$, 40$ should cover each item.

On mine the pin was corroded off and stuck in the connector. I had to replace the center console wire bundle, tried to repair the connector on the shifter assembly, and tried a used assembly both which ended up not working. So today I finally got around installing a brand new shifter assembly. Now no more shifter issues like D drive light always being on and the command shift select function not working!

Just to follow up again, I finally decided to just unbolt and remove the shifter assembly because my eyes are just not good enough anymore to discern how the harness was attached. The space was too small and cramped for my fingers to feel around.

In the end it is quite simple, so I figured I would post a pic here for any other harness-challenged people like myself!

Turns out you just push in on the front of the harness and then push/pull down on the bar in front and when the bar is fully lowered it sort of self-ejects itself from the shifter assembly. Once I got it off, it was quite evident where the problems were. I used some compressed air to blow out the connections.

Since there was still some green, I used a wire brush and cut off a few strands and twisted them together to make a mini-brush to clean inside the contacts on the harness. I did not have any contact cleaner and of course, I was too lazy to put it all back together just to be able to drive and get some. When fussing around with my make-shift brush I made the key-chime go off again, so clearly that issue stemmed from this harness. I disconnected the battery after that!

Being the impatient ******* that I am, I could not leave well-enough alone and decided to use a q-tip and rubbing alochol to try and gently clean the pins on the shifter assembly. I must have bent one and my eyes just could not see it (it was supper sunny bright out) and when I went to put the harness back in I had resistence. I saw the pin bent but in trying to get it back straight it broke off :frown:.

Everything works without pin#8, but now instead of the D light being on permenantly, it only comes on when the lights are on and it goes off when the LR3 is off. Ironically, that is progress, but unfortunately, it looks like it will be a $250 investment in a new shifter assembly now to fix my stupid mistake in leaving the sunroof cracked.

Anyone have the wiring diagram of this harness? Now I am curious what each pin actually does.

New update I left the sunroof open again and it soaked the center console good!

The shifter assembly I installed before I used conformal acrylic coating on the circuit board and pure silicon grease on all the connectors after cleaning them all with Deoxit.

So now I have an interesting new type fault. Shifter assembly still works in P, D, R mode. However Transmission fault displays and Command Shift is not available.

Is there another area where a nice soaked floor could cause wiring to corrode relating to the shift function? And other than the shifter assembly given in D it shifts completely normally.

Note: I used a heat gun for 3-5 hours with panels removed to make sure at least center console area is dry again, and a dessecant box the size of Texas in my rear seat.

Thanks for the recommendation Catman. Just ordered shifter assembly for my LR3. Merriam are still cheapest. Same symptoms as others i.e. D is permanently lit and command shift is not available. Decided to cut out the cancer by replacing the assembly. Could try to do it on the cheap but I'm always short on time to fix stuff with my garage full of JLR stuff.

While we're on the subject of fixing things, has anybody fixed a dead stereo in a RRS? It's my 2006 HSE that's gone quiet. Front panel is lit and radio shows stations but there is no sound. Land rover logo is all I get on the navigation screen. It was working but suddenly went dead. I saw the videos about shorting the MOST fiber optic from the bluetooth module but wonder if there is anything else obvious before I rip out the trim from the back end interior to get to it. I don't have a convenient cover and hole in the back because there is no DVD player. Any thoughts?

Tried the battery trick and it did not work. Touched terminals together after disconnect but no result with infotainment system when reconnected. More detective work required to fix this. I refuse to go to the stealer to be relieved of a wedge of hard earned green. Any advice appreciated.

Advice is this:

1. Turn everything off.
2. Turn off the ignition.
3. Wait 20 min; have a beer.
4. Disconnect battery terminals.
5. Wait another 20 min; have another beer.
6. Touch cables together for 10 min; have a shot of Tequila.
7. Reconnect everything.
8. You're welcome.
