Tell me more about the adaptive dynamic suspension.....

In theory, as I have to swap all the computer modules, the vehicle thinks it’s a RRS supercharged. Aka, the body control module, abs module and ECU will all be swapped. (Plus a few others to make sure all the VIN coding matches).

So I guess the question is, what are the adaptive dynamic suspension components? Is it just a different set of airbags? That are controlled by the BCM? Or does it have its own separate control system?

Just curious....I’m changing everything else out, it may be worth it while I’m in there!

Ok, so I did a little research in the shop manual for the RRS regarding the adaptive response handling system.

Truthfully, I don’t know how “seamlessly” it will transplant as opposed to the engine. While the adaptive torsion bars may fit on the frame, you have to find space for the pump, valve block and reservoir for the hydraulic system. Then, there are 2 accelerometers you’ll have to install and wire into the system....then, you’ll have to wire the control unit into the CAN bus system....

There are a few other odd and ends, but that’s the gist of it. While most seems fairly straightforward, the hydraulic lines, if you were to find them, would most likely fit the front axle, but the different wheel base will render the rear lines unusable....maybe.

I don’t know....I’m not sure it’s worth the effort. That said. The LR4 definitely rolls around the corners a lot!

Let me call my parts guy and see if the donor car came with the adaptive handling, if so, what’s left of it.....and how much it’ll cost me! [emoji6]

This will be the 'SVR' LR4 that land rover should have made! I have heard that the hydrolic swaybars also open (like disconnect) when in rock crawl mode. I would confirm before undertaking such a feet. Good luck!!

Sorry, missed this.

So the Adaptive Dynamic Suspension (I think later called "Adaptive Dynamics" by LR) is a system that allows for the suspension to automatically adjust the firmness/softness (or maybe other suspension parameters) based on the road surface sensed by the vehicle. LR may have included other features into the system later on.

But with the introduction of LR4, when LR re-tuned the already perfect suspension of LR3 (along with the steering weight) in an attempt to make LR4 drag strip and soccermom friendly for those Rodeo Drive shopping excursions, and therefore we lost the well-planted feel of LR3 which used to be extremely confidence inspiring on the rainy days, specially on the wet, hydroplane friendly freeways, and not to mention on the washboarded/corrugated dirt roads.

So LR4 would have greatly benefited from this adaptive suspension even if we were given just the manual modes/settings to adjust the damping factor.

Funny you mentioned that because I have been toying with a crazy idea last few months :) just never had a chance to post it here. But now that you have reminded me of it again along with our friend Tapps33 here, will do shortly.

Ok, I thought I'd post what's in the manual about the adaptive suspension system. It's kinda cool, not gonna lie! Plus, the way it works, limiting the torsion like it does could be HUGE in terms of the LR4!

That said, the guy I got all my computer modules from already scrapped the donor vehicle....sooooo....not sure if I'll be able to put all the parts together to transplant. I'm trying to find another donor vehicle, but they're starting to get scarce! Plus, I'm not made of money, and these guys ofter want a ridiculous amount of money for the parts! We'll see though!

Couldn't upload all the pics.... here are the rest.

Disclaimer: the system jumbled the order all up. That said, I think I figured out how to post them in order on this post.... so this one should be in order. Sorry!

Interesting read.

I don't give much thought to road driving, but I have always wondered how much, if any, articulation might be gained for offroad use by fabbing up some sway bar end link disconnects like guys run on Jeeps.

Anyone have any clue or ever done it?
