Lr4 oil level meter capacity

Does anyone know how the oil level meter relates to oil capacity? if it matters, for the 5.0 V8.

min = add how much to get to max?
middle = add how much to get to max?

i cant seem to find this information and i prefer not to just guess and check since it takes 15+/- minutes each time i add a little oil. ill either spend all day checking it, or overfill it.

This is one of those things I try not to think about because it would drive me nuts. First off, I never have to add oil between changes. My level stays constant, at least according to the digital gauge. Also, my possibly dangerous assumption is that Land Rover engineered the digital gauge tolerance to allow for a bit of variance but still tell me when my level is in the safe/normal range.

So far this approach along with 5K intervals seems to be working as the 5.0L is running strong and quiet...

I believe the manual details how much to add depending where the indicator is sitting. The info on the dashboard may say it as well? It has been awhile.

“NOTES
The approximate quantity of oil required to raise the level from MIN to MAX is 1.5 litres.“

There you go. I know when I had a min warning that a litre would get it back to saying full. That damn thing is probably give or take 1L lol

i thought i was "low" on oil as the meter was reading at half full. the slight incline (nose up) in my driveway was enough to show a false reading. i didnt think that the small slope woudl cause that much of a variation.

parked in the street, whcih is flat, and it reads max. which is what i expected it to be.

so not only do i no longer need to know this information, but i am also relieved to know my car is not burning oil.

IIRC, the gauge is not absolute. It requires a calibration when the oil is changed, so it "knows" what "full" is, then bases readings off that. So, unless you've followed the procedure in the factory manual, there's no guarantee the reading displayed is accurate. Also, I've found what I drain out at oil change time is measurably different than what I pour in, yet the gauge shows NO difference in level - which makes me not trust the stupid thing in the first place.

As cperez said, I never have to add oil between changes, so I don't worry about it.

On a side note, I don't think it's necessary nor desirable to always have the level at MAX. In the middle is fine. I wouldn't add anything unless it asks for it. The only time you'd be concerned is if using the 15kmi factory change interval, which is a Very Bad Idea, as discussed many times in the past.
