Just installed the AB kit as it was on sale last week. I was very impressed with its construction and had no issues with the install other than the holes only lined up with the 4 pin to the right and one of the four screws wanted to strip so I just went with three and it is more than secure enough.
Now you guys have my head spinning on the sway control. More reading to do!

What is the difference between the wiring harness for 10-13 years and 14-16 years? Visually they look the same. Just got 2016 and looking to try and pick up one used. Would the 10-13 version work?

Finally got around to installing my trailer wiring harness. Was really easy to follow AB’s directions.

Just got some questions; do I need to change anything in my ECU? I’ve got a GAP iid.

I enabled a few of the trailer parameters to get the tow hitch guidance on my backup camera (Draws a straight line from the towball, and puts a red dot about where the ball is)

Bahhhhhhhh!!!! Sad #adulting night. While installing the BA kit, the Brown wire for the 4 pin connector got crimped when busting my hand and tail to get the connector seated through the bumper.

Pulled it and was going to to wrap in electrical tape and go (damage appears to have cut the covering but not the copper wiring) but the entire time I'm wrapping it my brain is telling me... "not a place to screw around" "brown controls brakes" "just get a new one" "do it right".

Bah! Just ordered a new one and emailed british Atlantic to see if they would like the other pieces back. Didn't make sense to put on the ox hitch since I'll just need to take it off again so my night of fun was well... not as satisfying as I had hoped!

But, going to lean into the positives... I have the time to wait for the new part. I learned more about my rig. I didn't hurt myself and I stayed busy for 2 hours tonight, lol. And now, after seeing how easy it is to remove the tail light assembly, am going to check out upgrading to the 2014 lights!

On attempt 2 I am going to consider installing with the 4 pin on the right vs left to take advantage of the additional notch out in the bumper.

Update:

All installed. Will look a towing features through gap this week.

I installed with the 4 pin on the right. Went in much smoother. The backside of the plug is slanted a bit to cheat to the taillight side so when you install with it flipped it fits better in the front but puts just a bit of an angle on the wires going towards the center of the hitch vs the taillights. Only 3 screws could go in. Couldn't angle with the number blocking to get the 4th.

Got everything else lined up except the tree screw in the bumper under the lights that holds the wrapped wires and the one right on the rear bumber where the wires come out was NOT going to line up. They also are not adjustable.

No biggy. The wires are tight and the harness is in. Ordered a cheap tester from Wal-Mart online (trying to give Amazon some competition, lol).

Photos of the fun!

P.s. those little hands really were helpful!

I did the British Atlantic wiring harness and brake controller today. The big snag I had was with the wire connectors behind the plastic panel in the back cargo area. They were jammed against one another in a really small space with metal brackets holding them to the frame. I had to mess with it endlessly and deal with a lot of frustration in order to finally get them accessible, unsnapped, and the live harnesses plugged in. I used my 10 year old daughter to help feed the cables behind the bumper and up to the headlight compartment. She was a big help. Not sure I could have done it without her. A note of caution, the mounting bracket for the brake controller is garbage. I wish I would have just used Velcro to attach it instead. I'm exhausted. Long day, but it's done.

As with all of these projects, they look really simple in theory, but often suck in practice. Like they say, "It's always simple, until it's not." I watched a couple of different videos on how to do the install and it seemed like there was nothing to it. Mount the 7 and 4-pin connector plate onto the bumper through the pre-drilled holes. Feed the cable. Snap some connectors together and "Bob's your uncle." Not so fast, I'm finding it's always the little things, the ones you take for granted and that they skip over and not show you on the video. Sure, they point to the factory installed connectors and say, "Yep, just disconnect the dummy end connectors and pop in the wired ones." What could be easier? Right? Am I right?! But what they don't show you is the process of accessing and unsnapping those dummy connectors. They allow you to assume it is as good as already done. But it's not. Not by a long shot.

No, the best videos, the most helpful, at least, are the ones where you get to see the person struggling. That's what I want to see. That's what I want to prepare for. When they struggle, I know it's the real deal and when they work their way out of a jam, I get an insight on how to do that too. I don't need a video where they point to the finished install and say, "Yep, you just snap together this and screw on that, just like we did here previously." Simple. No problem. That kind of "instructional" video is virtually worthless to me.

I don't know if I am going to need to go to a dealer or authorized independent shop to get my car computer to recognize I now have trailer wiring and a brake controller. I did notice that when I put my foot on the brake the controller lit up. Not sure if that means we are totally good to go. But it must be recognizing that I am applying the brake, that's something.

You're probably good to go, however there are a few (mostly worthless) features that you can enable with a GAP tool or the dealer could probably do as well.

The trailer sway control is enabled by default, and you don't even need the trailer wiring plugged in for it to work.

IID Tool settings would be Trailer module, Trailer stability assist, and Trailer towing ball.

The other features that this will unlock are the trailer tracking (surround cameras only I think) and the ability for the rear camera to automatically zoom onto the tow ball.
