Heading over to test drive this guy right now, popped up on facebook market place.

Low mileages, owner says all service done by Tysons Corner Land Rover (records aren't in the carfax but hes agreed to have the dealership release the records directly to me). Bought a Range Rover. I suspect he didnt like the trade in number they offered so hes trying to sell privately. Trade in on it is around 12k retail is 20k, private sell ???.

Will take pictures and video and report back.

That price would only be worth it if the timing chains were done.

Alright Hive Mind!

I test drove the rig. Here's what I found. My plan is to find a landrover mech to take it to on Monday to get a pre purchase inspection. Gent wants $17,500 - hoping to talk him down either way to 15ish but inspection will tell me more. 70k owner. Working on getting service records from local dealership (will post when I get em). I really appreciate any thoughts you guys can give!

Overall feel:
- Drive feel felt good. Good power, no lag. Very solid and stable
- Great low miles but not sure if this is right before the pricey repairs start coming in, thoughts?
- Bummer: No rear camera, just parking sensors :(

Concerns // Odds // Notices
- Rust on the underside but not sure if its more than normal? Car did spend 30k miles in Canada [photos]
- Weird "whine" sound when turning the steering wheel (from the steering wheel itself inside the car) [Video Steering Whine]
- Back drivers left air compressor seemed to run long when raising the car (stayed on for almost a full minute when others turned off quickly, watch around the 1 minute mark) slight swhooshing sound right after compressor turned off (maybe a leak and compressor over compensating?) [Video Rear Driver Compressor]
- Slight clicking noise when raising to offroad height from back drivers tire [Video Slight Clicking Rear Drivers Height...]
- Seemed like there MIGHT have been a slight knocking // ticking noise on start up? Seemed to settle as it warmed up. I might be overly sensitive. Someone with experience listening for this, can you share your thoughts? Engine revved down at 40 seconds in the vid. [Video Cold Start]
- Included video of going into "low mode" while in neutral - slight clicks heard, could be totally normal [Video Low Mode]
- Slight Flapping sound coming from front drivers tire at neighborhood speed [Video Rotational Flapping]
- Slight High Pitched Buzz or Whine from drivers side [High Pitch Buzz]

You can only attach 4 or 5 photos so here is the link to the google drive folder with more photos and videos

Interesting that it started life in Canada. Also, is that the ipanema sand color? Looks more like a 15-16k truck but I could be wrong.

That is Ipanema for sure, same as mine. What this has taught me is that I need to sell my Canadian vehicle in the US...

Looks to mostly be surface rust but I would have it thoroughly inspected. I agree that is a $15k'r Just point at the rust..

I bought 2 vehicles from the rust belt and will never again. I moved to California recently and when you see the difference of the undercarriage of a California vehicle vs a Northeast one I think you'd never buy the NE one. I'd personally rather have a California 120k mile vehicle vs a Northeast 70k mile one (assuming they had both been serviced/cared for equally). shipping vehicles is cheap also, like $1500-2000 coast to coast.

Southern California for sure. Still need to be wary of the salt fog north California ones. Texas, Arizona are good too but need to watch for flood vehicles as you go east.

Hey Robert,

I recently got a low mileage LR4, mostly cosmetic issues with mine and overall update to worn parts.

Did you check the front end in terms of weird noises when the wheel is turned all the way to either side and you drive both forward and in reverse? If you hear clunking, could be wheel bearings or struts.

The steering column whine is pretty common, not much can be done for that, mine does it too.

Rust looks fine, the body frame is known to be really solid and surface rust common.

Did you check the rear tailgate? Make sure that has a solid click when it unlocks and that the actuator doesn't sound like it's whining too much, mine ended up failing so be aware that you should replace that just for peace of mind.

Usually better to buy from a dealership as they'll got over it a bit more thoroughly under the hood and provide a limited warranty than buying from a rando.

Did you check the interior for water stains? Usually the sunroof drains are clogged, but I ended up having a crack in a seam which I needed to caulk up.

@Michael Conley thanks for those tips! With a car at this age I'm just as weary of dealerships... but maybe that is misplaced?

I did not try those tire movements. Ill give it a go next time around.

I did check out another rig today.

2012 lux with 110k. They want 13500. Its green which is my favorite color but its got some body damage (pic attached). And after raising the suspension to offroad and setting off on the drive, the rig threw a suspension error and would not reduced height to normal ride level. Warned not to go over 30 mph because of the added height. It did drop down after turning the car off and back on and lowering before driving off again.

Any thoughts on what component it failing on that? The owners dad owns a truck company and is going to try and pull the code for me.
