Hey guys,

I ordered an eBay RR fob on 315mhz thinking it would be smaller than my OEM, but the thing is thick and heavy. What’s the smallest option (other than taking the board out of mine and carrying it *****?

Which key fob on eBay did you buy? I'm curious about getting another one, and a different design would be cool...

I would have purchased the wrist band remote a long time ago, but it only works with newer models:

Electronic key bracelet
For models:
The Range Rover Velar (2017>)
Discovery 5 (2017>)
Discovery Sport (2018>)
Range Rover 4 (2018>)

I note you are referring to the LR4 plus I do not know what you guys are trying to do but below re my 3 is a link to where I purchased two of the factory style key fob cases. They are better than I anticipated. They are not glued together; they snap together and they come with a very small screw that you screw in to keep the two half parts together. The ones in the picture have the Land Rover logo as well - not all do.

You remove your original cut metal key blank from the old, file the insertion end down a bit (new slot is a bit less deep), and slide in the old blank and reinsert the retainer "pin" and the doors still unlock and the engine still starts.

To split the old case, you get C clip pliers of a suitable small size, set it up so when you squeeze the handles together the two pin ends open.

As such, you insert the two pin ends of the pliers into the opening of the old keyfob where the chrome is; put all including your hand into a big clear zip lock bag and squeeze the handle.

It does not take too much of a squeeze and the two plastic halfs pop apart with a loud snapping noise and all good. The springs etc are all still within the bag and the circuit board is untouched still within one of the plastic halfs.

I am an old guy but I would suggest you best have two working keys before you start fooling with anything other than factory. It can be tough enough to get a 3 going with the factory key fobs when something goes wrong.

I presume that you know that part of the anti theft circuitry is that the metal key blank or at least the fob communicates with some chip inside the steering wheel lock cylinder to allow the engine start sequence to proceed.
