Hi,

I have a 2006 LR3 and just got the OME lift (coil conversion) and Terrafirma 18 inch LR3 wheels from Lucky 8.

I looked at 32” tires as I have seen these on LR3, but they just seem too big, and I dont want to lose articulation as I am getting tires that also works for offroading.

I was going to get the BF Goodrich KM3 (MT / Mud Terrain) but now that I have to go down a size to 265/65r18, there seems to be no MT tires available. Can that be true??

So I am probably getting BFG KO2. Which is great but i was excited to go a little grippier.

or I can go with a RT “hybrid” like:
Federal Xplora RT, Toyo Open Country RT, Radar Renegade RT, Nitto Ridge Grappler or Discoverer LT Maxx.

Questions:
1. Is it really true that no mud terrains / MT tires are available in 265/65r18 (in the US)?
2. Anyone has proof of 275/65r18 AT or MT tires actually working out on a coil converted LR3 (not just looking good)
3. Any recommendations, watchouts or reviews of the hybrid tires I listed?

First hand knowledge and photos appreaciated :)

Thanks!

And thus starts the conundrum of messing with a suspension system that sets the benchmark for on and off road capability.

I think you lost your articulation when you converted to coils! I run the EAS and always will, so I’m not answering your question exactly, but I’ve run 275/65/18 Duratracs and currently 265/70/18 Cooper S/T Maxx. The 275’s had very slight rubbing on the drivers inner fender/bumper junction that was fixed with a grinder and a flappy disc. The 265/70’s required the flattening of the rear pinch seam. Both stuff into the wheel wells, so no articulation is lost. I love the S/T Maxx and highly recommend them.

If you’re set on a mud tire the Cooper SST Pro is available in a 275/65/18 size. I can vouch for the sidewalls being tough as iron and the tread is the quietest mud tire I’ve ever witnessed. My son has them on his samurai and they are hardly noticeable with the top off.

Many thanks for the information, as looking at tires for the LR4/16 with 18" LR rims. Found a set at the local swap meet. Thanks again. Trying the Goodyears.

This is one of mine in action down in the sand, rock, and mud of southern Utah last spring. By the way, if you are unfamiliar, the sand down here is like driving on baby power and when wet will cake any tire, no matter how aggressive. (Check out this YouTube channel to see the area suck in the inferior vehicles!! Matt’s Off-road Recovery)
This is one of two a daily driver on 265/60R18. This is a pure stock 2007LR I own, I have also put these on my Nissan Titan but that is a story for another forum. I originally put 265/65R18 on by they had a slight rub when I turned hard right out of the parking lot. So I went back down one size. The tires are Open Range (LesShwab’s version of the Toyo Open Contry)

I also have the Les Schwab Open Range A/T on my 06 but in the 265/65R18. I have a Rhino Rods lift and 18" steelies. I like the performance on and offroad but wish they looked a little more "aggressive".
