@Seabassjfr Where are you getting it done at for that price? I am talking my wife into holding our 2015 Lux until the new Expedition gets v1 self driving mode which my friends at corporate are saying in 2022.

Although our landy is low mileage, it has the smell of coolant after a drive when wife parks it in the garage. So, at the price you're talking, that's cheap insurance to get us another 18 months without me worrying about it.

Thanks for the info.

David

if you have a 2015, you shouldn’t have this issue. The crossover pipe issue is generally an issue just for the 5.0L V8’s you’re probably having a different issue.

Is it? or is the 2015 plastic now just getting brittle?

that's news to me. I thought they were basically the same pipe with just a but different design. Same propensity to fail.

As to a different issue, we have had this thing check out three ways to Sunday. No leak found. It's weeping someone. Water pump was replaced as they thought it might be that in 2018. Didn't fix it. So, we've just lived with it.

It's only got somewhere around 40-42k miles on it. I've been in the automotive industry for 30 years and can pick up the smell of coolant from a mile away. It's without a doubt, coolant smell. No visible leaks, nothing on the floor. Just smells of coolant when brought in the garage after a drive.

True, and why would that part be different on the two engines...is it different?

Definitely a different part. The early pipes looked like the 5.0 (two halves plastiwelded together). The newer rendition (shared with the newer discovery) looks like an evenly formed pipe--no seams.

Old, 5.0 one piece pipe:

thanks for the response. I was just looking online last night and didn't realize that Biggs is a client of mine. One of our sales guys must have sold him, so I'm kind of obligated. Appreciate the info. Maybe I'll have one of my sales guys reach out to Lamorna!

Cheers

Mine was just under $1000 to replace pump and both pipes. Labor was around $400 (3 hrs). This is in DC metro area.

Cperez, what shop? I had my rear line rupture and the folks in Rockville charged me around 1500 for just the rear pipe replaced.

I have some more work I'm holding off and would love lower rates for it.

My 2016 LR3 decided to have coolant leak while we were on Thanksgiving break 2020, just after a 890 mile drive to Durango, CO. After I parked, noticed coolant leaking out of the front drip pan, but it was slow enough not to loose too much.

Because of the nature of the issue, I decided to have it fixed in Durango instead of trying to get it to a Land Rover dealer. The indi shop there found that the Thermostat housing had cracked and was leaking. And they found a cracked plastic joint in one of the coolant hoses.

Cost for the part plus the labor was a whopping 1090.00 US$. And they did not want to deal with my extended warranty company so no warranty for that repair bill.

The car just had the water pump and the cross over pipes installed at dealer about a month before that, I should have had them replace the thermostat housing as well, but I missed that and had to deal with this on the road. These plastic pieces don't last long and specially in Texas, they have a hard life.
