One of the the great pleasures of an LR3/LR4 is the ability so sit on the tailgate enjoying a favorite beverage nicely shielded from the rain/snow, enjoying whatever view this fine vehicle has transported you to. Invariably, the pleasure is interrupted by the dreaded "Low Battery - Please start engine" warning.

Ranging from annoying while tailgating at an event or camping near others to downright scary while deep in the woods, I've long dreamt of a convenient solar power solution to power lights and provide a constant trickle charge to the battery.

Since flexible solar panels came on the market I've been waiting for someone to do a nice job of making a solar panel that would laminate to the hood. Cascadia 4x4 to the rescue! This past weekend I installed the 100W solar panel and so far am very happy with the result.

Looking forward to NEVER seeing that damn "low battery" error again!

I like that a lot. Design-wise, I sort of wish they'd taken a bit more advantage to make it blend into the curves (e.g. the front edge following the same radius as the front of the hood), but this is really nice.

Oh, and try doing something like this while still having cutouts for the windshield sprayers. Nice!
