I think it's been said earlier in this thread, but there's a dedicated battery under the hood for this feature, once it goes dead so does the feature. Dealership will take care of it if you tell them...if they fix it regardless you can unplug the connection to safely keep it from working. There's a few threads floating around on how to do that as well

Not always true.

The ECO mode on my 2016 stopped working (see my posts earlier in this thread). It was NOT the battery. The secondary battery tested as fully functional.
It was a combination of a humidity sensor failure and a required software update. This particular issue does not throw any error codes.
I'll post the specifics from the work order later this week. If you have a warranty, I would suggest taking it in.

My '16 Landmark has stopped doing the ECO start/stop. I'll mention it at my first service.

I've got a 2016 LR4 and the ECO light is on in the dash, except when I press the button is says ECO is not available and the light with the line / through the ECO is on. Took it to the dealer for regular maintenance and asked them about it, service rep asked if it bothers me, I said nope I prefer it not working, he said then leave it, it won't cause any harm. It's been about 6 months now and the light is still on, ECO is not working, and I'm loving life. I have 3 vehicles with a for of ECO, 1 I turn off each time I start driving, the other has no option to turn it off so I'm stuck with it. The whole notion this saves gas is rubbish, if anything it adds wear and tear to components. Just my 2 cents

Our 2015 (ECO) quit working a month after we bought it used (11/18), dealer replaced battery under warranty, then worked for about 6 months then quit again, after warranty expired. Has not worked for the last year, and I just left it alone. No other issues other than the analog clock being either 30min or 1 hour behind off and on, very sporadic when it's behind.

When the auxiliary battery dies do you need to change it or can it be recharged with a battery tender?

I never use the feature and turn it off always...does not using it cause the battery to die prematurely?

Where is this battery under the hood if I want to change it??

Well, I hear all of you - 2016 LR4 - eco stopped after a few months - I just left it alone - warranty expires this month, so I took it in to have the dealer look at it:

So it begins...
----------

Copied from dealer receipt:

10257 preformed health check and found inhibit for power supply. Inhibit description informed that "GWM" update may (my emphasis) fix issue. Updates performed for "GWM" and "BCM". Long test drive, vehicle performed one ECO start stop but not consistently.

Performed new health check and found inhibit for secondary battery voltage. Tested secondary battery and failed. Codes 1HCH6T-42H9FJR-590A28 (why didn't they just do the batter check first?)

Replaced secondary battery and performed replacement procedure in SDD.

Performed new health check. Battery flagged as inhibit. Tested main battery and failed. Codes 1MAH6T-02H9FJR-M90A28. Replaced main battery and performed long drive cycle.

Eco start stop now operating as designed.
----------

So, the dealer replaced my main battery (which worked just fine) and the start stop battery. Did a update powertrain control module PCM and did a update to the gateway module. So there you have it.

I get to the dealer and pickup the car (whick was still running from the valet) and I drive out and... wait for it...

no Eco SS, nada, nothing - all the way home for the short drive I wait - nada. OK, Ill drop it off Monday morning. Im retired...

So right when I get a block from my house the engine light goes on...

Sighs....

PS - besides taking it in because I still had the warranty I took it in because I was told by several independent LR shops (research in and out of state) that if the SS battery if left alone, would very slowly drain my main battery. Now, if there is a dissenting argument tell me!

Just curious - you said the eco start/stop stopped working after a few months. Was this back in 2016 when you got the vehicle? Or did you but it used later? I’m wondering if the eco start/stop hasn’t been working for years, with no other problems. That would suggest the problem is not linked to your main battery, even though the dealer’s notes seem to suggest that it was somehow related.

I also have a 2016 model. With respect to battery drain, my SS has not worked since I bought the car (used, about 1 year and 8 months), and I’ve had no issues with my main battery. Granted, the dealer put a new SS battery at the time I bought it (which made the eco light go away, but it did not fix the SS).

Also wondering if you have a code reader to see what codes are stored right now (causing the check engine light)?

2016 - SS stopped a month later - car started just fine - but when I called around everyone told me that it would act as a drain on main battery - but when I did oil changes - codes were pulled and no one said anything... no i dont have a reader - should probably get one though -

2016 LR4. Eco mode has stopped because ECO battery is dead - halleluia! But I don't want to leave a dead battery in there as it will eventually leak. Are there any reasons I cannot just remove the battery?

And, to add my experience. The ECO battery has been dead for over a year and no observable drain on the main battery, even when parked for long periods.

Thanks!

From memory, if you remove the ECO battery it will throw errors on startup every time. I believe the vehicle will continue to function, but you'll get a "start/stop function unavailable" warning every time with an icon on the dash.
