Seeing more and more people getting chains done. I have a 2012 with 80K, and just inside the supposedly affected range, so I'm thinking I should start keeping an eye on it.

For those of you that have had the problem, I was hoping you could spare a minute and let me know if you think these are normal injector / HPFP noises or the beginning of chain noise?

If anything it seems like the most noise is present in the third video -- after its warmed up a bit, though I suppose that could be as the fan slows, there's going to be less noise to drown out the other noises.,

Cold start

High idle to idle down

Don't worry about it. By the time it becomes a problem you can't help by notice it. It may never become a problem.

yeah, I get it. I just have a number of trips planned this summer and don’t want to end up with a car full of people in a car that doesn’t run....

Mine sounds basically the same, I have 120k and sometimes I get paranoid. I think we just gotta ignore it and keep on pushing, car runs like it’s brand new otherwise.

LOL then you really shouldn't have bought a Rover. I kid but if/when it craps out Muphy's law will ensure it will be on a trip and full of people.

Sounds normal to me (I'm at 125kmi, original chains/guides AFAIK). You may be hearing the injectors, which are not silent.

Is there any significant increase in noise a full operating temp?

Good question, I will have to compare. I was under the impression the problem is most noticeable after a cold start...

The chain noise is most noticeable when accelerating from idle once the engine is warm. All 5.0s are noisy as hell at a cold start. The chain noise could be noisy then, too, but it's drowned out in the rest of the engine noise.

Seems normal to me and my 2013 has only 45k miles with meticulous maintenance.
